We will be moving soon, and will have about 2.2 acres, split into two fields, one just 0.8 acres and the other 1.4 acres. We have three horses, all cobs who get fat by looking at pictures of grass! The grazing is fine for them, short moorland grass.
We also have a barn which we can use for stabling, it's about 25' x 14', I've been trying to work out how to fit three stables into it, when it's finally dawned on me that as the horses all live together peaceably, they can sleep together loose too, although I wouldn't give them hard feed together in that situation.
At the moment, the horses live out on 5 acres, we harrow and the fields are split. I'm thinking at the new place that if I poo pick, and have the horses in by day in summer, and by night in winter, the land should hold up. Of course I don't know yet how free draining it is, but both fields are on a slope, and about 8 feet below their lowest point is a brook, so at least there is somewhere for the water to drain to.
I'd be interested in your opinions regarding how best to make this work please.
