I suspect my 10 month spaniel could be coming in season for the first time as my other bitch keeps trying to hump her. Can anyone tell me if this could be why and how to stop it as my spaniel is terribly offended.

My springer humps our retirever bitch and retriever is always MOST offended! Sometimes Retriever stands there being humped by Springer bitch whilst Springer is being humped by Munsterlandeer puppy! Looks hilarious! Actually, the sign that my Retriever was coming into season for the first time a couple of months ago was the springer bitch standing over Retriever while she was lying on her back, submissively, and Springer standing over her growling. I had a feeling this was a reason for that particular behaviour and sure enough Retriever came into season and Springer stopped what I thought was "dominant" behaviour.

Just be firm with her, tell her no and push her away.
It seems to me just one of those things, loads of bitches do it. It can be a dominance thing, esp as the spaniel is the youngest.

that is a dominence thing my two dogs do it now and again just to remind each other who is top dog, when you catch her doing it tell her off as could turn into doggy scrap.
