Shocked but should I be surprised? One horse was just 6 years old.

I initially refused to put our Shagya stallion through the 3 x90km endurance required in France, for his stud book performance at the age of 6 years. However, he found it so easy, he did it. Final heart rate 42bpm. We did have our own rules, built up with 30,40, 2x60 then 3x90km with our own stable jockey, 6 weeks between every competition. I had NEVER trained a horse for endurance, he never failed a vet gate, twice we congratulated by vets for his condition.

I find it heartbreaking that wealthy people with lots of resource cannot prepare and keep sound their horses for what should not have been a hugely challenging endurance event for a 6 year old horse.
