Two horses need rehoming, any ideas?

Rockysmum, thats a good idea, I remember them doing that :)

Littlelegs, not sure of riding schools around here, I could look into it. I think theyre exracers so were rideable but I'd be a bit worried sending them to a riding school, my experiences with them haven't been great!
Yes, the YO should be paying for feed and hay but he has a pre-training yard to run and I think he's struggling, if I dont hay and feed them then they wont be getting what they need :/

google racehorse relief, Jo maybe able to help, she does ask for a one off donation, but she rehabilitates and then finds the new loan homes, they always stay owned by the charity. The website is out of date, so ignore the fact it hasn't been updated in a while, I've just been asked to redesign it. The yard is lovely and the care is exceptional... I've can vouch for it being a genuine safe place for ex racers. I know she would be able to make room x pm me if you want some more info.

Thank you for your concern for these horses.
Your yard owner is the person that legally has ultimate responsibility for these horses.
Contact the BHS or World Horse Welfare as they have far more experience of horses than the RSPCA.
If the horses have been dumped then a legal procedure needs to be gone through before anything can be done with the horses. Your yard owner will need to get this put in place otherwise she could be held liable for stealing the horses. (See Redwings web site).
Do you have the passports for the horses as you will need them to transport the horses and a horse transport company will definately request to see them?
Check out the charaties as theer are a vast amount of people portraying themselves as a charity who infact are not.
You would be best to prepare a description of each of these horses to make them more attractive.
I would also suggest having them freezemarked and microchipped so that they can always be identified in the future.

Nb The grey in my sig was an 'abandoned horse'. It took several months to get to the point where legally he could be rehomed (with us) and another 18 months after then before we got his paperwork/passport sorted with the AHS. It's not as simple as 'find someone who will take them'. Really the YO should have got the process under way long before now.... I know it is difficult when liveries do a bunk but the YO has contributed to further neglect here, and it would ring alarm bells with me as to the duty of care the YO will show to the other horses on the yard. Well done for trying but please make sure that you keep yourself and your own horses safe.

Yes do check out the charities, there have been some awful cases of misrepresentation in the past and you can never be too careful. WHW has a horse with Jo, at racehorse relief, so you could check with them, although it is way down in Cornwall, so may be somewhere closer to you that can take them, if not give her a buzz

if you fear the horses are not strong enough to be turned out with others then maybe it would be wise to get them checked BEFORE they are wormed and also before they travel to make sure they are fit/strong enough for the journey?

not sure what happened to the words 'by a vet' they were supposed to be in there

I'm in Hertford and if need be they can stay a night or two with me (between jorneys ? I'm 1hour / 1and half from Newmarket ;)

DuckToller - which part of the M25 are you thinking of?

I am north of the M25 so could bring them back to my place for a night or two, and then someone else could pick them up - that would work perhaps, as can't envisage loading two poorly tbs at a motorway service station :)

It looks like a lot of paperwork has to be sorted before then but my offer is there if it helps.

If they are ex-racers get in touch with the Thoroughbred Rehab Centre, they will probably take them or can at least offer some advice

This!
You can't just move these horses without the legal route being followed. In fact it is an offense to transport them without passports. Has the YO served abandonment notices?
Get these reported to the appropriate authorities - local council animal officer would be a good start and let the YO step up.

Littlegs, thank you...it was awful but at least we know they are in peace.

OP, you have to do this legally. When I originally posted on this forum and before posting any updates, I made sure I had the owners permission. I understand that is difficult for you, but you must he careful.

You do have to follow the correct procedures and getting authorities involved is essential here.

I called every single rescue centre, sanctuary and registered charity in the UK and only found one able to take. In the end, one of the horses almost got himself or one of us killed trying to load and on welfare grounds, we PTS.

I'm not saying there is nothing you can do, but I am saying that whatever you manage to arrange, it has to be legal and with the support of one of the welfare authorities. Without that, you could find yourself up the creek without a paddle and that will do these horses no good.

Well done on your efforts, but do it all the right way for your sake and the horses. X
