I'm going to lose all respect for this...

1.) sire: arab. dam: new forest. 14.2... horse or pony??

2.) why do you have to mix feed? it's not like we mix our side dish and main course and and soup and pudding and we can still digest it.

pony

haha i dono we just do ;) although if you have supplements in the feed i dont think your horse would be very happy with a gob full of supplement :)

Pony

And I think we mix it to stop some horses from picking out the best bits (not that I have ever had a horse that would leave a scrap... :D)

Pony (although I can get away with entering horse or pony classes at the local shows ;))
And not sure on the mix front....maybe so they get everything at once?

Anything at 14.2 is a pony. Although if you are in high enought level classes you must get a heigth vertificate as anything above is a horse.

You mix feed partly so they don't eat around the bit they don't like. Also if you dampen feed you ensure it is evenly damp not sloppy in some bits and dry in others. Sometimes you mix feed to encourage foraging behaviour - they can root through for the bits they like.

But mainly we mix because that is how horses tend to eat naturally. We might not mix everything up, but they do. They take one mouthful of pretty much everything. They don't eat it blade by blade, leave by leaf - although some will root about for something they particualrly want. Humans are humans and horses are horses.
