Two or five stage vetting...?

I'm looking at another horse this week with the potential to run her alongside my other one doing dressage (affiliated elementary/novice) and sell her on in about 18 months when she has more experience.

She's five at the moment broken in Feb so a late starter and is reasonably priced in the £2,500 margin (hoping to get it down a bit though)

Would you say a two stage vetting would be enough or would you say 5 stage to ensure 100% nothing is wrong.

I recently had a 2 stage vetting done on a horse that was £1500 and I was very impressed with how thorough it was.

For my previous horse who was £8000 I had a 5 stage done and he had to be put down in December due to a whole host of problems and quite frankly should never of passed a 5 stage.

I would get x-rays done if spending more on a horse in the future.

You would want a flexion test if the horse is to sell on for dressage.

It's a (as far as I can see) one off but and sell opportunity if I was spending £5k + I would no question be doing a 5 stage but wasn't too sure at this price.

Think to be on the safe side I'll have a 5 stage done for piece of mind and knowing she is good to go when I have her and when I come to sell her.

I had this dilemma when purchasing my unbroken 3yr old last year.

I went for a five stage as there is little difference in price, and I had her on trial for a month before so could get her lunging enough to get her heart rate up

How much did it cost you for the full 5 stage vetting?

Rossdales charge £240 for 5 stage

I'd personally choose a 5 stage vetting over a 2 stage, our vets only charge ever so slightly more for it too.

Always have 5 stage. If horse fails before 2 nd part is started vet will only charge for 2 stage
