Hi all, not looking for a horse just more curious and it's 2am so ?

For those who did two stage, did you find it as affective as a 5 stage or did you opt for 2 stage for another reason?
And if you did five stage, did something put you off to warrant a five stage or if not, was a five stage peace of mind?

Again, these are BROAD QUESTIONS don't worry about exactly answering em!! Just curious and bored is all ?

O opted fir a 2 stage 4 years ago. I wasn't going to vet at all as never have but I thought I would just get a second opinion!! He was an 11 yo ex racer so I assumed a 5 stage would be bound to puck something up?? I just wanted to know he was sound and capable of doing the job I wanted which was a low level all rounder. So far so good in the 4 years I've had him.

It also depends on if you are going to insure. Some insurers request a 5 stage vetting o think. I'd probably always go for a 5 star tbh.

I had to have a 5-stage for the insurance, but would have chosen that anyway. It only gives you a snapshot in time of how the horse is, but it's better than nothing.

5* isn't always needed for insurance, but your coverage can usually start sooner, and it allows you to insure for higher values for loss of use etc.

2* can be worthwhile for horses that currently aren't in work or not yet backed, and obviously cheaper if you aren't buying something super expensive. Also, sometimes, that can be what the seller has facilities for- so sometimes it's just a bit easier.

Personally, regardless of the type of vetting, I'd always get bloods done.

I've only ever done 2 stage ( or not at all) but I generally buy young/cheap, and haven't bought anything since the recent rise in prices.

That's quite interesting! Your vet seems quite wonderful for just offering that advice too haha. Most would tell you you're better off doing a 5 stage just so they get their money worth. I was definitely thinking of a 2 stage honestly, I doubt I'd compete and I'm probably just gonna get a welsh d or c at this point lol

In my experience, vets you have a relationship with are usually very honest with you and not out to just get money from you at all.

I think these days, unknown vets would probably advise a 5 stage just to cover their backs.
