Two steps forward, one step back

Sound is good! Bute is a start, and the investigation has started so you just need to follow the process now. Fingers crossed he gives you some answers 💕

And yes, I do get that fear and my horse HAS done that to me! Luckily my vet knows I'm an anxious headcase and believed me when I said she wasn't bloody doing that yesterday! 😂

It doesnt stop with horses, I'm like that about my flipping dogs now!

Have you had someone like Tom Beech out? I find they are absolutely amazing at finding weird, hes not right but no one knows why stuff.
I haven’t - to be honest, I didn’t think about it. I panicked last Friday when he turned his bum to me and immediately rang the vets. It’s all happened quite quickly but depending on what happens with this bute trial, I will be looking into contacting Tom Beech.

Bit of an update as it’s been a weird week.

Shadow started his bute trial on 24th October - 2 sachets a day. We had absolutely no improvement for a whole week. He was still so unhappy, lunging at people, turning his bum etc.

Friday just gone (31st) he was a little bit better. Tied him up outside so I had more space to get out of his way. He was a bit unhappy to start with but was fine to pick all 4 of his feet out.

Saturday I took it a step further - tied him up, picked his feet out and then decided to give him a quick groom. Again, not 100% happy to start with but the more I did it, the more he really relaxed and by the end, he was like the old Shadow again.

I guess my question is - if it was the bute making him feel better, would I have not noticed a change a lot sooner?

I find that Bute along with other things in general can take a while to show any effects be it good or bad in horses.

When Baggs did his tendon sheath a few years ago, it took nearly 2 weeks of Bute before I noticed a difference. I spoke to my vet and explained my concerns and she reassured me that it is normal to have a period of time where it doesn't look like things are working, but they are x

If you are worried I would say have a chat to your vets - they might want to make a note of it on his record with them x

Random left field thought here - but you’re sure there are no wolf teeth, right? You have checked yourself?

Because that would fit with bit issues followed by eventual continuous aggression. Or even just the aggression. Finally got one of my projects safe enough for the dentist - cue one wolf tooth whose root had been causing constant pain even in the field. Pony had been ridden in two previous homes. She’s like a completely different pony now, total personality transplant!
