Hi,

one of my horses has a wart on her neck which has been there a little while and a few months ago started growing slightly, but in the last few weeks it has grown quite considerably. I was treating it with Virex cream which didn't seem to make any difference and it became big enough for the reins to catch it when riding.

I have had the vet who has assured me it's nothing 'sinister' and rather than cut it out he has tied it off.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Is it effective or could it return? Does it leave a scar? I'm just wondering what to expect really, the vet has said it could take about 10 days to drop off and I need not do anything to it in the meantime.

Thank you

I know a show pony who had a wart on its chest, the vet tied it off as it is the best way to leave no scar. It ios kind of the same as banding a lambs tail i think!! The ponies wart dropped off left no scar the hair didnt even grow back white and it never returned. So yes it is succesful or atleast it was in this case. Fingers crossed for yours

My horse had a wart near his sheath, it got rather nasty looking, so the vet tied it off and it came away, there's no scar or anything there now, although he gets very precious about me checking to see if there's anything there! LOL

Thank you dizzydancer and Lobelia_Underhill. It seems you both had the same results so that's good to hear :)

Did it take long to drop off and did you treat it with anything during the process? I'm so itching to put antiseptic on it or something but the vet said there's no need.

My dad :eek: did my ponies when I was a child, before the days of 'get the vet' :D It worked and the wart dropped off. We didnt put anything on it. He tied it and I sort of forgot about it :o

I didn't put anything on, or touch the wart, it started weeping just before it was tied off, and I had to wash the gunk off the inside of his thigh, and I put baby oil or vaseline on his thigh to stop gunk building up, and to hopefully stop the drooping wart from catching (it was in a rather awkward place!), aside from not wanting me to go near his boy parts any more, there were no problems with it...

Poor boy, what a place to be fiddled with :)

From all accounts it seems I'm best to just leave it so I will, it's just so tempting to do something especially as it's in a very visible place!

Thanks everyone
