I know this has been done to death but I would really appreciate it if dressage peeps could explain how to tie a stock.
I like he way where they come out at the top rather than the hunting way if you get what I mean.
Im completly useless and I would love to get it right before the regionals.

Re: having it 'down' rather than 'crossed' just stop tying at '3', straighten and fasten with pin-though this is correct dress for hunt staff with the pin fastened vertically.

Anky Webtips: tying a stock

When I see people with the simple knot with the ends straight down I always assume they can't manage a proper knot!
 
Never have that prob!
Just make sure you always pull it tight especially at 2 and 3, then when crossed over fasten with pin going through the stock shirt as well to secure.

Yep thats me. I cant tie a stock to save my life.

I will have a practise using that method but I can never get the knot right, it always looks untidy.

My mum is completly non horsey so doesnt have a clue.
 
You must do infront of mirror
get the ones with button holder on back of neck as well as button hole at front
Right over left, Left over right - then twizzle knot into correct shape. Right boob, left boob - pin jut below top button of shirt. Extra safety pins needed if not wearing jack to keep from blowing around

Sorry but it is not correct for Hunt Staff! It is correct for everyone else with pin horizontal but staff tie theirs different depending whether grass or plough hunt.
This my stock where the stock pin would be vertical at the top down the to parts joining & then a pin at each corner. You can actually see where the stock in goes as there is a hole there!!

The trick is after tying the first knott not to let it slip out whilst doing the rest of the stock. You could always pin it to stop it from moving..
Also always wash with fabrick conditioner do not starch them. Makes them much easier to tie!!

Ahhh, well you do learn something new everyday! From the untrained eye, looks like a simple down tied stock with vertical pin, but now you mention it i am incorrect, have wondered why their stocks seem to be fastened at the sides with safety pins. Thank god to be a mere member of the field, having to learn one way is hard enough!
 
No worries! It is harder than a normal stock!

Then fluffed it with pins should be much neater!

Haven't a clue how the plough lot tie theirs!! Dont think I want to know!
Had to tie mine to compete the otherday & automatically did it like this then had to re tie it & really think what I was doing!!

Must say this picks where taken after a days hunting had to re tie it to get pics for someone & that is why stock dirty & creased!

If OP wants I can do a normal stock version of picks!!
 
I only half tie it, then pit it down with an old nappy pin. It stays on and does not look a mess.
