Tying up haynets

Following on from the thread much further down by frb re using haynets -are the bad, some answers brought a question to my mind.
What do you tie your haynets too? Do you tie them direct to a ring or bar or do you use some thinned-down baler twine? I'm asking more about in the stable or field than the horsebox/trailer?
I actually have a pile of haynets but only ever use them in the horsebox, when they are tied to thinned-down baler twine.
 
The people I ride for tie the nets to baler twine, but they're high up enough so the horses legs won't get caught up, but no too high that they have to stretch up.
 
I don't like them but use them as have field shelter and they waste masses of hay if I just put it on floor.

I use the small holed variety as less chance of getting stuck in them and tie them to bailer twine or where I can't do that in one of my shelters I've actually thinned the net down instead so that would break in an emergency.
 
I only use haynets in the trailer & for soaking hay.....in the stable I feed either on the floor or in a haybar. I feel it is safer for my horse & also a more natural way for him to feed.
 
Hardly ever tie a haynet up as have a Haybar, but when I do, I use a small hole net (so feet can't get caught in it) and tie it to a ring (think there is too much chance of net being pulled to the floor if tied to baler twine, once on the floor it is an accident waiting to happen IMHO).

I use a very small hole net when I need to. I wouldn't tie it to baler twine as that would worry me in case it fell down onto horse & made it panic in box or if it fell & horse got entangled in it.

I tied to tie ring when she is in & it is high enough to not drop so low it's a risk but low enough that she doesn't have to stretch.

Must admit, I'm not keen on them but if I put the hay on the floor she treads it into her bedding & I can't afford to lose hay like that!

Oh sorry. Well, because I was taught that way! No, I worked on a large yard and we never tied to baler twine because it snaps! Particularly with big holed haynets, if they come down there is a possibility that the horse could get his feet, legs entangled in it and cause a lot of damage. Haynets should go up and stay up to be safe. For the horse it is obviously better and safer to put hay on the floor but if it is going to be tied up it should imo be tied to the ring. It's also how the BHS teach their students to tie up.
