Tying your horse up with a haynet?

How many of you do this?
Everytime we groom or let Osk out of his stable he is tied up with a haynet. Patly because my mum is such a softy, and because he is the worlds worst fidget.
If you dont so it, is there a reason? Or is there any bad to come from it, other than getting a bit podgy!

I don't, only because it makes too much mess and she usually stands still anyway, she can survive for a few minutes without hay and it she doesn't need to be eating just before/after I ride which is the main time she's tied up. There's no real reason why you shouldn't though I don't think.
 
mine stand on the yard without haynets most of the time, really depends what they are tied up for. i think ash gives hers a haynet if she is giving him a bath etc. at a show they are always tied with a net at the lorry.
 
Never even though of that! Most horses at the yard are stalled, so stand very well when tyed up, I type Pip and Ginga up just outside there stable and so far no figity problems, at a show they have a haynet.

I tie Inky and Ty up without a net except when im clipping or bathing Inky ready for a show, just to keep his mind off what i am doing!!!

I have plenty of times but can see why one would not do it.

A horse should learn to stand without it for sure.

It did prove helpful a few times when we were doing Tex's bandaging however

TBH I would rather osk to stand on his own as all the excess hay cant b good for his podgy belly. However, its my mums decision not mine....

I find that if you can get the feet through the holes and squeeze the head in, then a haynet is pretty handy...

Must admit I thought that you meant tying up WITH a haynet LOL

In the winter Cropi has a haynet but not in the summer. If she has to hang around for the back lady or waiting for the farrier she may get one but not normally in the summer
 
I dont generally, but I do always tie up one to the side of the trailer when they're standing about at shows. I hate seeing horses with no food all day at shows.....

Otherwise Id only tie up a hay net while horse is tied up if they were fidgeting etc.
