I am looking to sell my Ifor trailer and get a small horsebox and just wondered what your personal experiences and preferences were.

I have a 16.2 and a 13.2 to travel and dont really want to get a large lorry as I am only a small lady and just want something reliable and easy to drive to pop to local shows with.

Any ideas?

You could buy a 5t or 6.6t Dodge/Merc. They are a bit shorter than a standard lorry and are like a big landrover to drive. Don't have airbrakes either.

This is my box (it is 21 years old, so forgive the paintwork) but I can get 2 17.2 or 3 ponies in it legally and I have a bit of living as well. My whole lorry is smaller than some people living. Thats a 6.6t Dodge.

That looks like a lovely lorry - I am not too worried about living area, obviously just need a small area to get changed and store a few bits but most of the time I will just be travelling the one horse so could probably manage without!

Having never had a lorry before I appreciate any advice, obviously I am going to take my dad with me when I adventually start looking but I am more interested in reliability than looks as he is quite good at tarting things up!!!

I'd second the 5.5/6 T lorries as long as you can find one big enough for a 16.2hh. My sister has a 5.5T Renault Dodge and its lovely to drive, really easy and horses travel brilliantly in it - hers is quite a short length though, so my 16hh is probably the biggest that would fit in, as she fits snugly but happily in it (although she is very long backed anyway).
