A lady brought her daughter to view a horse that I am selling. I took time out to show her his good points. I rode him and jumped, We started up the horse box and reved it whilst he walked around it. She wanted to see him canter on a loose rein on an open feild, so we hacked out. We flapped plastic bags around him. etc. Her daughter rode him. He didn't put a foot wrong. ''I'll come back with someone more experianced'' she said, and not even a phone call since. Are some people just rude, having a day out, or after a free ride?
 
For some reason I thought your post said tyre knickers and I was imagining the time waster turning up in very strange riding clothes!

I hope you get someone sensible over the bank holiday.
 
maybe they just didn't like your horse, it is quite hard to say, sorry he's not my cup of tea!

I recently went to view a horse, the photo used to advertise was now I realise last summer, what I saw when I got there was a hat rack! with poor feet that haven't been trimmed for about 6 months, I nearly bought him out of pity, but that I'm sure is not the way your supposed to feel about a horse!

(not saying yours is a hat rack!)

I could have said on first laying eyes on him, sorry he's not for me, but I needed to check that first impressions were not wrong, so I saw him ridden and rode him myself, he was a nice boy and exceptionally kind for a 4 year old warmblood whom no-one else had ever ridden, but there was not the spark that I have felt for the horses I have owned and own now, and the one who shall be here in a few months!

put it down to experience! maybe you wouldn't have wanted to sell to them anyway!
 
Having just bought a new horse that rears and just found out that the vendor KNEW and did not tell me, I would advise anyone to look, look, and look again. And STILL not believe what you are told.
 
I was selling my horse a couple of years ago and a mother and daughter came to look. Daughter rode in the school and went out for a hack with my friend on her horse, they were gone a good hour. When they returned I asked what they thought, mother said, "oh, we aren't looking to buy, but my daughter has her BHS Stage 2 coming up so it's good for her to ride lots of different horses"! Gobsmacked!

I'm not sure you can necessarily class them as time wasters. Maybe, for whatever reason, they simply did not like the horse...
 
It does sounds disappointing for you OP, but on the other hand some owners become very upset if the buyer says 'Sorry not for me' and it is easier to give another excuse. At the end of the day this buyer turned up when they said they would and didn't waste your time with missed appointments, endless phonecalls, etc. All they did was not buy your horse, but that's not timewasting unfortunately!

sue_nf: now that is the worst case of timewasting I have ever heard of!! :eek:
 
They are part and parcel of selling horses I'm afraid! You get them no matter what you are selling but it's just worse when there is a horse involved as a car doesn't mind how many different people try it and buy it! Lol just have to make sure you get as much info out of them over the phone then you have a bit more of an understanding whether they're coming out to generally look at the horse to buy, or just for a ride. But like people say they're are genuine people who come and the horse just isn't for them but just don't know how to say it. They will always be someone out to waste our time whether we like it or not! :)
 
I understand that people may find it difficult to say to your face that the horse isn't for them, but there's no excuse these days for not letting you know by text or email, or even a phone call.
 
I am going to be buying my own horse next summer (saving up an emergency fund first whilst I finish university) and I guess for me it will be the opposite. What is the best way to tell a seller that you do not want to purchase the horse that you have just viewed? I worry about offending people, especially when they have spent time letting me view their horse.
 
Although it may be difficult, I think you should try and say why you are not interested. It may be that he is too difficult, I remember trying one horse once and I had trouble stopping it in the arena. Everything else was nice. I just said to the girl, he is too strong for me.

Others I have said that I am concerned about a particular health issue, (heaves) that the pony had, or whatever my particular concern has been.

I would have problems saying a pony had a conformation defect, or was just neglected but I guess if I had too I would, as kindly as I could.

The feedback has to be useful to the vendor.
 
I am off to see two horses today I just hope I have been told the truth!?!

Have seen two already first was nutty and when I got asked WHY DONT YOU LIKE HER i was honest and told the horse was nappy and not my type I then got accused of being nervous!The owner had a personality change(in fact it was not the owner but I am sure dealers, I had asked to meet the owner who rang whilst I was viewing).

Second horse was fine and the owner very truthful but not my kind of a horse, so I just left, we never did all the things I asked ie when caught it was brought in with another horse and not alone. But i got told warts and all and she was good.

So we shall see, I refused to see one last week but the owner was honest.

If I hear about another bad shoulder....and sad sale! etc etc

Sometimes a horse is nice enough and behaves ok on the day but when you sleep on it there are just too many niggles...:... or something better comes up...... people aren't wasting your time unless they ask you to put off other people

I'd say the issue here is they were very rude not to call back and say they didnt want to see the horse again for whatever reason, especially when they had left it they'd planned to come back.
 
When I last went to view a horse I told them as soon as it came out of the stable and looked over her that I'm sorry she's not for me, saved wasting further time racking her up etc, felt a bit bad but no point in looking any further if you have no intentions of being interested at all.

But I think in the OP's case its just one of those things you have to expect if selling, I duno should people drop a curtasy call afterwards? I don't think they should not unless they have said I'll ring you back to let you know.

Your horse sounds lovely and not many people would go to the effort of doing all that, so can see your point.

Try putting your horse out on Lwvtb at a certain price then get an offer for less than half after 6 months! Despite him being 'amazing'. Figure that one out!
