No real point to this post other than feeling sorry for myself.
My cob does what I call "splat spooks". She stays on the spot and jumps. She sometimes splat spooks so hard she goes down on her knees. 4 times in the 4 years I've had her. So she wears knee boots for this reason.
Till today I've not come off due to one.
Walking along and before I know what is happening shes on her knees and I'm on the road. Ouch.
No idea if she even spooked. Or just tripped.
She's fine. I'm sore and too old for this!

Ouch ! I sympathise hugely, having had a mare that introduced me to the face plant on tarmac because apparently, I was ruining her day.
Hope you're not too sore.

I fell off Merlin this afternoon my first fall in 14 years and first fall off merlin who I’ve owned since he was 3 it wasn’t his fault my friends horse spooked and spun and he spun to get out of the way I Wasn’t expecting it and landed on my back but I was wearing a race safe body protector As I’m old and on blood thinners and I actually feel totally fine unbelievably. Oh jeez, I really feel for you. My 16.3 ISH is also a huge fan of the splat spook and they can be unbelievably jarring without falling off! I second the recommendations for baths and alcohol!

Ouch, I hope you are now feeling a bit more relaxed after some medicinal cookies and maybe a shot or two of the liquid kind. DP in my avatar also wears knee boots for exactly the same reason, he can go from upright to bambi like in a nano second and it isn’t fun. Love him dearly when he is being sensible but god forbid a lack of concentration and he finds a blade of grass ?

Oh dear. Very demoralising. The thing with wine is that it has to be taken in conjunction with a hot bath - and then followed by a generous application of arnica ointment to the sore bits. You'll be up and galloping in no time!!!

Must of been a day for it yesterday as I came off too, I can't recall the last time I did, must of been years! A right ol' doof on the head too. Luckily was a soft landing - but was in front of a group of kids, cringe!

We'd just been out a short hack which turned onto a splat-spook fest so I cut it even shorter and headed back to have a little trot about the school, no way was I having him have less than an hour out the stable.

Was sunny with big shadows and windy, a bit but not awfully windy but it was a bit colder than it has been lately - then two people sitting at a picnic table by the school got up suddenly as we were passing that spot - drop shoulder and spin! Ahh!

Same weather again today so might just forget about riding and do some lunging and inhand then give a good groom, none of which he will like! but a big tasty haynet might help with the grooming bit. Too much other stress in my life right now to add more.

It really is :(
At the moment its my rear and shoulder that hurt. I think my ample posterior took the brunt....
You might want to get yourself to a chiro / osteo soonish. When I landed on my backside on tarmac it did quite a bit of damage to my coccyx and pelvis which I am still paying for years later as I didn't get it looked at for far too long.

Yes I hope you're not too sore today, folks-who-fell! I was very lucky and catched onto the back of a rare walk and trot ride going out from the riding school, so got my boy out after all. Cold wind and tractor-type-thingies putting wrap onto round bales in the parallell field by the road, lots of cyclists and walkers and random spooky things so not exactly relaxing but he did really well. Think he takes comfort from other cobs in particular, as well as other horses of course!

Was it full moon or something yesterday? All the horses on our yard had one on them. Didn't fall off yesterday, but have also come off on the road, like you, when the horse fell. Ours was a sideways splat resulting from a spook on a freshly resurfaced and newly slippery road surface. How neither of us was injured in any way I do not know. It did really knock the horse's confidence though, so worth bearing in mind next time you're out.
I wish you a hot bath, a large gin, a tube of arnica cream and a really good sports massage. Hope you're not too stiff tomorrow.

? to those who came off - what strange coincidences ?
I was out on Saturday too & my mare decided to trip over her own feet whilst looking at something interesting in a field - we were near home & on the buckle of course ?
Could see the tarmac coming to meet me but she righted herself just in time thankfully bless her - we never go out without brushing and knee boots as she does have a tendency to forget she has four feet when distracted ?

How strange that so many of us came off!! Hope you all are ok!

I'm feeling much better. Back is far less bruised today. Strangely my thumb is currently giving me a lot of pain! I seem to have caught it somehow as I came off and pulled all the skin out from under where the nail tucks in down the side of the nail bed......
