Does anyone have any views / recommendations for any UK based SJ stallions that are available fresh / chilled?

I would like something with a good temp & conf that would possibly lighten a lovely big Holstein mare.

Thank you.

have a look at Quirifino Quainton, he is doing very well with Ben Maher and his foals this year and last were very nice indeed. There are several to see currently on Quainton's website.

I would also have to say look at the Brendon Stud stallions (although I know people criticise me for recommending them). They have a VERY wide range of stallions to suit all sorts of types of mares...all the stallions are competing (and winning) classes in the UK and almost all 6 and over have competed at the WBC at Lanaken. If it wasn;t a big Holst mare I woudl suggest Warrior, whose record just cannot be argued with at the moment but he would be to big to lighten her. At Brendons though they also have Caretino Glory - an Int Grade A - who throws quality types and also El Thuder who again is a real mare improver!!

Other than Brendons, have you thought of the stallions at Rumer Stud?? They have some exciting new youn boys!!

Have you looked at the Scottish AI centre? They currently have 3 lovely SJ stallions at the centre - Ben Nevis, Hemmingway and Good Times who i believe are available for fresh/chilled. Putting my mare down there next week - cant wait!

Ben Nevis is wonderful!!

Saw him win the Scottish Sports Horse 3 Year Old Loose Jumping - and lovely conformation too. :)

Other stallions:

Super Trooper de Ness - results too numerous to list
Vangelis S - need I say more?
Handel II - seen some lovely stock by him, especially the one that was Elite 3 yr old jumper at futurity last year!
Romanov

I recently saw Ben riding Quirfino at a show. He looked gorgeous! And he was really sweet, nuzzling his groom. Watched their round and he was v. careful, and surprisingly quick!

Quirifino is a very good boy to handle and be around. He was joint 3rd in the Hickstead King George V Gold Club last year and . Given the foals he is now producing, I will definitely look at him next year.

Another I had looked at was Cruisings Micky Finn. Also, Billy Congo at the Billy Stud open day was very impressive indeed!

I was going to suggest Handel but there is also Lauriston.
Romanov is only available frozen but has great fertility ,we have scanned 2 maiden mares in foal 1st time with his frozen this morning.

Thanks for mentioning Brendon Stud, for refinement I would say El-Thuder [2nd today at Royal Windsor in Walwyn Championship!], Caretino Glory or I have a coupkle of younger jummpers! Please feel free to pm me.

Super trooper de ness is one of the best young stallions in our country atm. A good future ahead of him, lovely temperament and fantastic over a fence. Only frozen though but exceptionally fertile. He is yummy! Very good value stud fee too.

Good luck there is a huge choice! If you are into showjumping i am sure you will have some insight into the stallions the riders are talking about x

I love rumer stud stallions.but i stumbled upon a new stallion at old lodge by sandso boy.only available this week for chilled but wow what a horse.my mare is being ai'd on saturday!

Sallyf - Thanks for mentioning our boy Lauriston, he is certaining a blood type warmblood & has been used very successfully to refine heavier more old fashioned warmblood mares. He is a really lovely old boy with incredible fertility & we think his record as a competition sire speaks for itself too.

Smee - Please PM me if you want any more info.

This is my problem - give me dressage anyday, jumping I'm not so hot. The mare moves lovely, but I should really stick with jumping lines for her. She is by Cantus.

Thank you all very much for your responses. They have been very helpful - I have been 'googling' all suggestions & browing stud websites.

Please keep them coming, if you think of any more...

Another vote here for Brendon Stud because I have used thier stallions.

They have some lovely stallions, with superb bloodlines and great temps.

I have used thier stallions (and would use them again). From my own experiance i can say that Shirley is a super horse woman and I have always found her to be very helpfull, informative, down to earth and honest.

Im using Super Trooper this year !!! but he is only frozen

If you go on the Horse and Country TV website they have a link to videos taken of the Stallion Expo that was held at Keysoe back in Feb this year. I liked the look of Zubin R, who I'm told is now being ridden by Ben Maher.

Not meaning to plug Brendons again BUT this is the mare we used on El Thuder (She is essentially Oldenburg x ISH):

and THIS is what we have at 2 yrs old:

So he definitely adds quality and lightness!

I wasted loads of money trying to get my mare into something overseas and then looked at Je Taime Flamenco and Super Trooper De Ness, who are lovely but only suit light mares and only frozen. I also looked at Quarifino Quainton but when I contacted the stud I was told he had a testicle removed so wasn't available.??? I then went to Brendon Stud and had a look at the stallions there. After trying to get my mare in and the ups and downs of unusual season sequences. Brendon stud and Ed Lyle, got her in on the first attempt to Caretino Glory! my foal is due anytime now. If you want a pain free transaction and a UK stallion I can't recommend them enough. what's a real advantage is the selection of stallions you have to choose from.

Good luck

Thank you all very much - Very helpful.
Eventrider23 - thanks for posting pics too. Lovely young horse.

Decision time now.
Daddy or chips...
