Has anyone moved from uk to Republic of Ireland? We're considering it (although its just an idea at the moment)
Oh is self employed and I work with him half the week and in a hotel the other half, I'm also studing law at the OU so not sure how that would be effected. In theory moving the business wouldn't change much as wherever we move we would have to built a new client base, but having built it up from the ground we could do it again.

Also moving the animals, obviously they would all be coming with us (I'd probably let the reptiles go) What is the availability and price like for yards? I'd want them on DIY (ideally I'd want a house with land lol) is it any different than here?

For us we would be renting a property, is renting over there different than here? How do rates work? Also we receive tax credits at the moment, is there a similar thing? Like I said its a nice idea at the moment (putting a bit of ocean between me and the monster-in-law ;) ) and nothing we will be jumping in to without knowing the ins and outs of absolutely everything. We are getting married this year so it'll be next year before we decide anything, but just wondered if anyone else had relocated a big distance with their horses :)

Where are you thinking of moving to in Ireland?
Diy is less common over here than the UK and Alot of yards don't offer diy. Rates depending on what part if Ireland you are thinking of moving to would average I'd say @ 50 + a week depending on facilities.
There are no " rates" in renting however it is probable that water rates are going to be introduced this year.
Re tax credits at end if tax year you claim back a small percentage of what you have paid rent wise once landlord is registered.

We moved over 13 years ago to the West of Ireland with 3 horses 3 cats and a dog (the horses were shipped professionally). I can't answer a lot of your questions because we bought a property just before things went mad and of course now it might be worth thinking about buying because property is cheaper (I won't get into the politics :D). It will depend on what part of the country you are thinking of moving to. Here is a link to a site you might find useful, I'm sure there are plenty more out there. Good luck with what you decide to do. http://www.irishequestrianproperty.com/
