I do a lot of freelance teaching and would think it would be prudent to be qualified and wondered which path people choose between UKCC and BHS qualifications? And whether it is useful to have.

My perception - for what it is worth - is that people still look for BHS. UKCC is good enough as far as it goes and the psychology required for the higher stages is actually better than the BHS. But a level level 2/3 against BHS stage 3/4 employers tend to prefer the BHS qualifications.

I teach freelance, I do both private and riding schools and I find the riding schools expect the bhs qualifications x

I agree with others. It depends on what type of freelance you do. If you want to work in Riding Schools I would go the BHS route. If you freelance and specialise in a discipline then I would go the UKCC route through that discipline.
I have both but never use my BHS quals but I do use my UKCC all the time. For me the BHS route was great when I worked in a Riding School but the teaching side of it was not very helpful, although I think they have updated the teaching side of it now.
I learnt so much more about teaching people when I did my UKCC and I use what I learnt everyday when teaching my riders. Most of my riders have noticed the difference and love it.
I do specialise though in Dressage and do not teach any jumping so it was really useful for me to do the UKCC through BD. The course was fantastic, much more enjoyable than training for my BHS exams many years ago. You do however have to already have a good technical knowledge.
I changed from BHS as their exams were all generic and I was well into dressage by then, I think they do have more discipline specific pathways now but it was too late for me and to be honest I would still go the UKCC route.

I think it depends who you want to teach. For me, I'd look for a UKCC coach over a standard bhs trainer. BHS is great for local unaff riders and riding schools. Affiliated riders I think would want UKCC and a good competition record (well thats what I look for)
