Looking at doing my UKCC Level 2 Qualification. Has anyone done this? How does it compare to doing the BHSAI Qualification?

Also as a person looking for lessons, would you prefer a UKCC or BHS Qualification to be held by the instructor?

Thanks!

I have been teaching through word of mouth based on my experience but would like to encourage more clients, perhaps those that dont compete, and so thought it would be more attractive with a qualification behind me?

I've done the UKCC L2. It has a v different feel to what I know of the BHS system, but then again I've been told the bhs system has changed, so ??!

All 3 governing bodies now expect you to have UKCC if you want to be an accredited trainer.

At a guess, it depends on the clients. UKCC is def cheaper and quicker to get. If you're aiming at aff people, then they're likely to have heard of it so worth it. If lower level, I guess maybe it may not yet be as well known? So then bhs would be better?

Hard to tell really - both will make your insurance much easier to get/cheaper!

if you get level 2 you can go on to do your PTT.

I'm looking to do my level 2 - started doing my BHS stages years ago and 'fell out' with the sytem at stage 2 and refused to pay any more money to be told I couldn't do things that I can do perfectly well!

I liek the idea of the UKCC better - focusses on being a 'coach' rather than teaching - so more client- coach relations and raport building etc. and less 'do this' and 'that was wrong BECAUSE' and more 'how does that feel' and ' what would you do to correct that?'

I would echo this. (At BHS Stage 1 i was told off for having the body brush in the "wrong" hand)

I have my BHSAI and have to say I learnt nothing of any use ...except how to pass my BHSAI. So personally if I were looking for a trainer I would go with reputation and experience and not care if they had any qualifications as I don't think much of the BHS system

BHS exams have definitely changed in recent years and the generic UKCC can be done alongside which IMO gives a more "rounded" qualification ie riding, horsecare and teaching and coaching skills. The discipline specific UKCC will be useful if you are aiming to specialise in a particular discipline and then I would say your own experience and results in that discipline will also be a factor in attracting clients. Any of the qualifications should help reduce the cost of insurance.

I have my UKCC through BS and have a letter from them acknowledging that it is equivalent to the Ptt. I'm overseas and it seems to be ok? I really enjoyed the UKCC, my trainers are accreditated and it was a logical choice.
