my horse has an ulcer on her eye anyone had this problem and if so do you have any advice as to what eyedrops i should use ect ect, i had the vet out but i am still worried as another person on my stable said the drops she supplied wernt very good..will my horse be ok? am i over worried?? thanks Gem.

Through personal experience please do not leave to chance. I would be worried about the vet saying to put drops on it unless they are pretty effective ones! Get a second opinion if you are not sure and do not leave things too long. Eyes are very tricky and you are right to be worried. Fingers crossed for you.

Please follow your vets instructions. I had a horse with an ulcerated cornea. The medication supplied by the vet included pain relief drops and antibiotics. She had to have drops every couple of hours. This was difficult to manage but very important. we caught the problem quickly and saw a big improvement within 48 hours. Her treatment had to continue until her course was complete even though she looked better within the first two days. If you are following your vets instructions - to the letter!!! and are not seeing an improvement you must call your vet. Home remedies and failure to comply with vet instructions could lead to permanent damage and even blindness. Sorry if this sounds severe but it is very important. P.S. if you are finding drops difficult to apply also talk to your vet and ask them to show you how to do this with minimum fuss - there is a technique!

get the vet ASAP...

These things can rapidly lead to blindness if they aren't treated with the correct medication sooner rather than later

she may need to supply you with bloods..so you can apply the "white cells" at the top of standing blood..i'm at a loss at to what its veterinary term is..sorry!!

Goldeneye WILL NOT get rid of an ulcer....

applying drops...with drops in you hand, slip hand INSIDE headcollar..if she moves her head, your hand will follow!!!

My girl has recently had cancer in her eye, on her 3rd eye lid. Getting the drops in during her aftercare was very difficult but I found that putting a headcollar on with the leadrope, stand on the lead rope and keep their head about the same height of our heads leaves both hands free to ensure that you get the drops in properly. If you are worrried get the vet back out asap. Good luck

Ditto what JM07 said.
When Robbie had his last corneal ulcer (he's prone to them

), my vet told me to use the blood plasma together with Fucithalmic eyedrops, I think it made a difference he hasn't had one for about a year now *frantically touches wood*, whereas he used to get one about every 3 months before.
If your horse is really difficult to put the drops in get your vet to put a catheter in his eye, that way you can get the drops actually in the eye without too much of a fight, rather than waste loads.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything contrary to the advice you were given by the vet. If you are concerned that the drops prescribed may not be up to the job discuss it with your vet - thats what he's there for............
