Just wondering how people think this may have come about?

There ARE buttercups in his field (not many but some) however this is week 4 in this field and first time we've had this...
There is also electric fencing which a lady up the yard informed me he put his nose on it today and over reacted screaming and panicking.
Also 2 days after introducing a cup of soaked speedibeet into his usual feed

its caused by botflys. If you have any Fuciderm it will get rid of it. My horse had two patches on his lips and my vet knew what it was straight away.

If it is the same as mine, ie caused by the bot and it looks exactly the same it is called a summer sore and it is where the bot lays its eggs. Not pleasant!

Actually, its a cold sore. My horse got one when she was a yearling I Googled and yes bots came up but as she was up to date with worming and no bot eggs had been seen nor was she ever turned out in fields with buttercup, so I spoke to my Vets and sent pictures. He came back to me and said its caused by the herpes virus that causes cold sores in humans ( but it wasn't contagious as the horses she was turned out with didnt get any sores) He said to use bonjela if they were annoying her but they would go on their own.
They went after a few weeks and haven't come back. :)
