Hello. Another ulcer related post I'm afraid. Just wondered if anyone's ulcer prone horse has had bit of a relapse after worming?

My boy scoped clear in March but only started going forwards properly once I put him on succeed for hind gut. He is now on naf gastriaid, yea sacc and succeed and around worming I put him on protexin quick fix pre/pro biotic syringes just in case it upset him.

That was a week and a half ago and since then he has started stomping and biting at the mounting block again and kicking out at my right leg :( all signs of the dreaded ulcers. He had been going so well up until then and just thinking about competing again.

Spoke to vet who said just watch him as may just be uncomfortable for a while but am paranoid of them returning as no longer insured and only just started working properly again..

The post rain grass is also quite lush so thought that may also have caused discomfort!

Not sure what other supplements I can put him on, reluctant to put back on omeprazole as think affected hind gut last time.

Any similar stories or advice?

TIA!!

Dengie do a feed that several people I know use and swear by called Healthy Tummy it's not cheap but definitely works. There is also a study that found supplementing 45ml corn oil significantly lowered gastric acid output and increased prostaglandin concentration leading the authors to conclude that corn oil may theoretically be a way to increase the protective properties of the glandular mucosa.

Try a four week course of Chios mystic gum. It has worked wonders for my mare. I get mine for £25 from intelligent horse!
