Can anyone help. I won't go into the history of why I'm asking, as too detailed.

I read something the other day that indicated if a horse has ulcers one of the symptoms alongside the usual symptoms is getting right hind under body .... Any thoughts? Also, what is the treatment for ulcers please? How does protein and hayledge exacerbate ulcers? Thanks

Mine used to object to holding his right hind up for the farrier - since he's been treated for ulcers it's no longer a problem.

Treatment for ulcers is generally a course of Gastrogard, which is a hugely expensive paste that has to be prescribed by a vet. It works by inhibiting acid production in the stomach, allowing the ulcers to heal, but unless the situation that caused the ulcers is addressed then they're likely to reoccur.

Mine didn't have ulcers she had projectile cow pats, I gave her protexin gut balancer and that helped but it only stopped when we changed grazing. ddon't forget scoping doesn't do the hind gut so your horse could come up clear but still have hind gut ulcers
