My mare was scoped for ulcers last week and is now having omeprazole injections once a week for 3 weeks as well as sucralfate twice a day.
Does anyone have any experience with the injections?
how many did it take before you noticed any difference?

Just be wary if you plan on competing as these injections contain a higher level of testosterone than is permitted under Jockey Club and FEI Rules.

Yep, my mare had the injections a few years ago. The ulcers healed well and we kept her on the sucralphate for a few months, if my memory serves me correctly.

How many injections did it take for you to notice a difference if you can remember sorry!!

I think it was an initial course of 6 and then another 4 a few months later. But it was about 5 yrs ago so I have forgotten the finer details! She's fine now, and recent re-scopes don't show any ulceration at all.

My mare had grade 4 open and bleeding, she initially had a course of 4 injections with not much success. She ended up having 12 injections in total, so 3 months worth and she got slightly worse before she got better. I didn't really notice a difference until i brought her back into work after given the all clear, then the ridden difference was incredible.

I saw basic improvement in a couple of weeks.
noticeable difference in a month

four months on an entirely different pony.

the course was 4 injections.

he wasn’t ridden for two weeks and wasn’t cantered or jumped till about 6 weeks in

Monty had a course of 4 as a last resort- he had received GG, sucralfate and Karidox for some time and although improvement had been made, vets wanted to try injections.

improvement was difficult to define as it was ongoing from other treatment.

one of the visits caused a big swelling about the size of an egg on one side of his neck- vet said this was fairly common and not to be alarmed (just warning you!) He had the injections in opposite sides of his neck each week and oddly the swelling never happened again on that side of the neck.

I did then go back to GG so we could step down gradually.

Pony had grade 2 when scoped this year. Had injections and sucralfate. Rode him once after he’d had his second injection on vets instructions to gauge improvement, which there was. Tried again after third injection and it was a night and day Difference. Continued sucralfate for a further month and opted not to do further injection. Pony has continued to improve.

The testosterone issue has sorted and everything is pointing to it being as good or better than oral. Would always be my choice for mine. 2-4 injections is a normal length course

My gelding has just had his 4th injection. He had grade 3-4. I didn’t ride for the first week following the first injection as he showed no improvement when tacking up. I noticed a difference a few days after the 2nd injection and further improvement after the 3rd.
