I can't find the way to search for Wagtail and PM her and then I thought this might help other people anyway.

I am another person who has seen a return of ulcer symptoms after the weaning down to 200mg period. My horse finished the 800mg 28 days about a month ago. I weaned him down to 200mg over three weeks and he has been on 200mg for a couple of weeks, the result being that I hit the floor yet again yesterday.

So if you haven't, Wagtail, it might be well worth repeating the treatment, as I've now heard of lots of horses who take two full goes to resolve them.

PS my horse also has kissing spines, and the operation is scheduled for October, but I can tell from his behaviour when it's his back and when it's his stomach, luckily it's pretty obvious with mine or I'd be wondering whether the op was worth spending the money on.

Only just seen this Cptrayes. Thanks. Sadly, I repeated the treatment, and for longer, but this time it had no effect. The vets are telling me it's in his head. In desperation I got an AC out to him. Without giving her any information she told me not to ride him again. Even though it may be a load of baloney it confirmed the same thing as what the vets had been saying. It's in his head and his issues are too deep to recover from. I was going to try clicker training, but now I think I will throw in the towel. He's happy in the field and so he won't be PTS. I have a place for him at the blood bank should I wish to send him there next Spring, or I will do a swap with my sister and he can go there as a field ornament and I will have her QH here for schooling. If I do that though, he will need to come back again once my sister wants her horse back. I wonder which would be the kinder option. At least with the blood bank he will only move the once. The journey to my sister is 5 hours in a trailer.

I hope you get your horse sorted, CPT. I am emotionally exhausted with my lad.

Sorry to hear that W, mine is thankfully right back to normal now I have got him back on 800mg a day.

I would do a once and for all move of yours to the blood bank. It's a good option for a healthy horse like him.

Yes, I think you are right. Once he settles there, I know he would enjoy that kind of life. He is fab with vets and needles and easy to handle and sociable. But for some reason I feel so mean. I could have sent him the last Spring but then thought about the possibility of ulcers. But it seems it was a red herring.
At least you know it is ulcers with your boy. Good luck with him.
