Has anyone experienced this with their horses? What caused your horse to have these (if known)? How did your horse behave ridden? And not being ridden? What were your next steps?

Mine (ex-racer) had ulcers which were caused by KS. Found the ulcers first, treated, didn't go, looked further, found KS, treated that, ulcers went. He looked miserable, withdrawn (stayed at the back of his stable & wouldn't interact), didn't shed his winter coat properly, started biting & kicking, v v lethargic to ride, hard to keep weight on, really really desperate & anxious for food & used to bolt it. Had him scoped to find them. He is now fine.

Mine had a lot of issues so it was hard to pinpoint the ulcer symptoms. But I'd say pinning ears and grinding to a halt when asked to go forwards was probably the main one. He was also dull and stopped being a pest in everyone's business, kind of became disinterested. He would yawn a lot and grind his teeth (he still does the teeth grinding whilst waiting for feed if on the yard). He was fat, shiny, a slow eater, fine to tack up. Once scoped and on treatment of Omeprazole and sucralfate he perked right up and was back to being a pest again! I didn't ride for a while and when he came back into work still wasn't quite right. I added equishure hind gut buffer to his feed and had brilliant results, within three days he was much happier going forwards and offering canter with ears pricked rather than shuffling along with ears back. He had sacroiliac injury, allergies (headshaking) that really distressed him and the death of his field mate which he really grieved over, so a lot of things to contribute to them.
