lily has the vet out on tuesday because i suspect ulcers, so i’ve got 2 questions about her diet and what i do with her after.
if she does have ulcers, can she be worked on the treatment? my saddle doesn’t even remotely fit so i can’t ride since a new saddle won’t be the top of my list especially if the insurance doesn’t cover whatever grade of ulcers she may have, but long reining/lunging? i’d started some of miri hackett’s groundwork which is actually what made me notice the discomfort around that area because in ever other sense she’s fine and i’ve not ridden for 2 weeks so nothing to notice under saddle, could i carry on with that or is she best not doing anything until the treatment is over? our first show should’ve been next sunday, just in hand classes, obviously not remotely my priority but if she could still go that would cheer me up a bit lol, i’d be walking her down so no transport to cause potential stress.
she’s currently on baileys light chaff, spillers lite and lean, D+H healthy herbs, a sprinkle of linseed and brewers yeast, plus the aloe vera juice when it comes. in general i try to feed ulcer friendly diets anyway but is there a way to make it more suitable? cost effective ideally. ad-lib forage and a straw bed, and she’s good at self-regulating anyway so always has a bit of forage left anyway.
condition wise she looks the best she has since i got her in feb, gorgeous shiny coat, a nice weight, had started to get a bit more muscle in the right places. with her being a native i don’t want to change her feed to something that’ll make her pile on the pounds!
