and is a bit groggy at the moment. I'm a bit sad there won't be little Ullas; it was originally our plan to breed from her but I decided that I didn't really want responsibility of bringing 8-10 little dobes into the world and finding caring owners for them (not some knobhead who wants to be 'hard', or worse still, wants 'em mean!) Lets face it, dobes are not most people's idea of a family pet so the chance of getting one of the aforementioned knobheads is pretty high...
Ah well...

Sensible girl!
As you say, they aren't everyone's idea of a family pet although they can be but they do need careful handling and knobheads don't usually come under that category do they?!

Ah poor Ulla she'll be feeling very sorry for herself for a while! Best plan of action though. Just keep a wee eye on her weight from now on as I'm sure you already know it can make them put on weight and she probably will get a wee saggy tummy now. Not easy looking after pups. My uncle bred two litters from his black lab gundogs (Windsor and Tina) and I helped him. Worth it in the end when you can see how they turn out and all 16 of them (Tina had 8 surviving pups in each litter) are all now fantastic gundogs in good homes!

She is indeed feeling very sorry for herself. I was going to ask about them putting on weight once they've been 'done' so thanks for that! Will certainly keep an eye on her waistline

Fortunately she's a very active dog, so hopefully will stay slim.

Awww, no Ulla babies

Could you not have fed ex them to loving HHO homes?? :P

Wise decision, love dobes to bits but most people do seem to want them "cause they are 'ard init" and that doesnt make good dogs.
She should be OK weight wise, just keep an eye on her and alter food if you need to- but given the amount of land she has to play in dont think she will get too podgy!

Would be great if I COULD FedEx pups to sensible people... You're quite right that dobes (and rotties, I assume) seem to attract the 'well 'ard' types...

Would hate any pups to end up with them.
She's feeling better now. Managed not to throw up in the car

ickle dog sends her huggles to the bigger dog!

A wise decision and one well followed through. If only more dogs/horses had an owner like you!!

Stupid thing is, my mates dobe was so soft her 1/2ft high gypsy terrier mix was deffo the hard one in their family, he'd bark at people at the door, the dobe would try and steal food off them... or be in the garden having stolen food off someone else...

They might look hard, but they're as soft as they come!

LOL, little ones always seem to rule the roost!

Wouldnt make a blind bit of difference to the "well 'ard" types, they want something for the look not the dog.

There's staffies up to my eyeballs round here!

They're supposed to be a daft bunch of canines if there ever was one...

And don't get me started on daft rotties... two different dogs I know prefer the sit and squivel method of killing to biting or clawing...

My friends rottie is still petrified of........wait for it...........SHADOWS!!! Daft begger!
And my aunts danes ( very scary so Im told) would only do you any harm by sitting on you( still think they are tiny pups!).

But sadly its only morons that dont know anything about dogs that dont know that dogs are dogs, and the pink toy poodle down the road could well scare the life out of your "well 'ard" rottie!

I can relate to that, the most affectionate dog i ever had (had loads OH trained Spaniels) was a Dobie called Tanya. I had one litter from her and cried after every pup was house vetted and sold. She was the most gentle sweet kind dog, even let my friend put a 2 week old kitten with her for company (kitten found dumped) She was just Perfect (my soul mate). I think you were right not to breed from her but what a loss.
