Just curious, what's your ultimate goal?
Not necessarily this year or next, and not necessarily for this horse, but what's the thing youd want to accomplish, which would leave you thinking "I've made it!"?
Is it different from the horsey goals you had as a kid or when you started riding?
Do you have a 'secret' ambition that isn't realistically possible but you hope it'll happen anyway?

I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that I'll probably never compete at Badminton, or get my top hat and tails, or earn the right to wear a red coat at an SJ comp. (eventing is too expensive, I've never even done an intro test and I haven't been SJ since I was 11 and i was rubbish at it) Secretly I'd still like to do at least one of those, but Id have to win enough on the lottery to buy some amazing horses, quit work and have about six lessons a day! I don't know what the realistic goal is at the moment.

Mine is small but a mountain to me.
It's to go back up through the woods at my yard on one of our new ponies.
2 years ago I got chucked off in them and broke my leg in 9 places. After a long battle I got riding again on a new horse, but those woods continue to pose a problem. It's a mental issue for me.
It's the final hurdle of a long and difficult road, and funny that you ask today because my daughhter and I are going for it today :D x

That's awesome! Good luck Welshie Squisher! :-)

Mine has been badminton, since I was about 4. Not to win, just to get clear xc. Never got further than 1* before I had daughter at 22 but was told I had the ability to go to that level with the right horse & work ethic before I was 30. Not competed since daughter was born, sold the horse (always joke i'm now living in it lol) cos of finances & time. Realistically i'll be 40 before I get the chance to consider 1* again, & think I will have forgotten too much by then to aim for anything higher than that. But can still jump at home, so now my ambition for the short term is to go hunting with my daughter who'll be 8 next season without it needing to be a slow, child's meet. And maybe aim for 1.30 clear rounds bs when she's older & I can afford to compete again.

Mine is to stay on :) be able to enjoy hacking alone, and maybe at the grand old age of forty go to a show and win a rosette. Small goals but big hurdles for me :)

My possibly unattainable goal is to get to the Olympics. Not the Para games. The Olympics. My more realistic ambition, hoping that I keep my current rides (And keep them sound! Unlike Luce who was listed for WEG then got a splint ) is to compete internationally - and win!

When I was a kid my goal was to ride like my brothers, they got to jump, play polo, do jamborees, but my doctors didn't want me riding at all! I Surpassed this goal by the time I was 6 when I did my first SJ competition for my pony clubs, and when I was 8 I went to polo camp

almost too embarrased to post under some of those impressive goals - but - get little lilly to novice next Jan [ age 5] & then maybe just maybe have a go at one elem test:D
& then get another baby dressage diva & see where the most numpty rider well into her 50s can get to

Mine is to get to the Trailblazers Championship, mainly because my sister went twice and the second time was on a horse that I had put all the work into whilst she was doing her A-levels, and she took him out for one day and got through, so I was a bit miffed at that. I managed to qualify for both 85cm and 95cm in 2009, but my mare fell lame in the April and was off for a year, so that didn't happen.

But I would also like to get to HOYs and just compete, not necessarily win, just so I can tell people that I competed at HOYs.... this was the plan with the mare I got to TB champs with, but again... lameness and being off for a year got in the way, she's sound now, but I'm at uni so she's been shipped off to my sister.

But one day... I will go to the trail blazers championships... and with all the luck I haven't had, I expect to shock the socks off of everyone there! :p

Haha! I just admitted I wanted to get to advanced despite never even having ridden an intro test - the goal of getting to novice/elem is MUCH less embarrassing, Especially considering youre already well on the way!

HDPE, were you going to WEG with Luce? That's awesome! You must have the most rock solid willpower/work ethic!!

Littlelegs, that was my goal with badminton; clear xc and not laughed off the grounds in the other phases. Still, Hunting with your daughter, that's probably twice as nerve-racking!! Hope there'll be some "proud mum" pics when the time comes!

I would love to register with the Long Riders Guild and do a REALLY long ride (like hundreds of miles) riding and leading my two girls, camping out at night and seeing some fab places.

We were shortlisted and invited to the final selection trials, but 5 weeks before hand he threw a splint. I found a new horse to ride at the trials where we came 7th overall, which isn't bad since I'd only ridden Gilly once before hand, and he had to adjust from an able bodied rider to one using a whip instead of a leg
I've been very lucky so far, long may it continue.

Oh wow that sounds like a brilliant experience! Have you done anything like it so far?

Mythical, you'll know when I've taken daughter to a big hunt when you see a thread starting ' tips for persuading an 8 yr old she can't take a hireling next time to do the big hedges on'

No, unfortunately :) I have to work 48 hrs a week to support the girls :D We have done a few low level endurance rides, but this is a dream. Maybe if I win the lottery, eh?

I just want a healthy happy pony and to live to a great (he is now 21yrs old) age and enjoy low level dressage competitions.

Wow that is an amazing achievement, im seriously impressed !- as an aside i notice that you are a new user on here, there is another regular user ebony_allen who rides with a prosthetic leg ( i think - sorry if thats not correct ) i know she would be interested to hear of your achievements :)

My lofty aims for my boy are to compete at bd affliiated prelim and get at last 60%, i also want to be jumping 2ft6 and not cry! Id love to gallop along the beach with him. Long term goal is to be able to a bit of everything with him.....but if im honest in my heart of hearts i want to event:D:cool:....

Pie in the sky dreams from when i was a child- i always always wanted to have a go at the puissance at hoys.... hummmmm:eek:

Mine's just to get my own horse and hopefully not be a complete numpty and for the horse to be happy and healthy, enjoy some hacking and if I get brave enough do some local low level comps. Prob pie in the sky but dream I might do cross country one day!

My ultimate unrealistic dream would be to ride at Burghley and Badminton, but I've accepted that is never going to happen!
On a more realistic note I aspire to get a good job, earn enough money to buy a nice estate in the country and have a stables full of horses to compete with and enjoy (currently battling through my A Levels and off to Uni to do law this year, so the dream seems a bit far off!)

Awww I still have yet to buy my first horse! That is my number one goal! Still apart from that I want to go to ANY show with my share horse and win ANYTHING, just a rosette! I am 25 and never been to a show it's so tragic :-( I used to help at shows when I helped at the stables yonks ago, ah always the bridesmaid never the bride!

Basically I would like to go, not make an ass of myself, and do whatever I have to do to get a rosette of some kind. I will frame it of course :-)

Secretly I hope I will be really good and win lots more things and something prestigious too, against all odds :-)

To actually have a year where neither me or my horse have an injury or illness...I've had her almost 6 years, and still haven't gotten any further than a trot round the school! :o

I would love to go team chasing.. looks like such fun.. Should add, nothing big, 3ft class would be just fine.

Another goal I would love to be part of, is to breed my own racehorse. I couldn't possibly own it out right, but to be part of a large syndicate and say 'I have a racehorse' to me sounds awsume! (of course it will never be plain sailing!)

And on a third note, I would LOVE to be able to master sitting trot on my mare! I can't for the life of me do it and always resemble some sort of bouncing jelly!>!

Just want to jump at Hickstead, has always been my dream, and hopefully in the next couple of years I might be able too! :)

I do lecture demos on dressage to music. For the big finish I have a GP horse and rider. My ambition is to do the big finish on my own horse(already chosen the music!Just need to practise the moves.:D)
I would also like to use my Knabxappy in the demos to do tricks to music.

To keep my horse injury free long enough to compete this season!!

My ultimate goal is to jump a newcomers track on her!! Dont even care if we don't go clear, just want to know we can
