DD has asked for a pair of these https://glazeandgordon.com/products/pravins-sellier-wide-stirrup-leathers (Other makes are available and cheaper) on the basis of some stuff she has seen om social media. Having done some research I can see that they were a "thing" a few years ago but not so much know - although that could be because they have become mainstream.

Does anyone have or use a set of these? Do they offer less bulk under the lower leg and greater stability? DD primarily hunts but is hypermobile. (I should add she is also an adult not a child) She has sprenger bow balance which make a massive difference to her joint pain after a day riding in the cold, but we are always looking for something more.

Any experience of these anyone?

I am hankering after a pair of these currently. I've not heard a bad word about them, but they have a lot of influencers pushing them so its hard to know whats true, so following with interest.

I had a pair of the Henry James ones before they stopped doing them. The leathers were great and really did make a difference to my lower leg. That said, actually getting fitter and doing more work on my lower leg would have had the same effect ;) but I wasn’t riding regularly at the time. They only lasted two months before stretching dramatically - to their credit HJ gave me a full refund - but I think that was more a manufacturing problem than an issue inherent with wide leathers.

Equi makes a good point about running up stirrups - I use Freejumps so can’t run them up anyway (I take them off after each ride) but it would have been annoying if I was used to doing that.

I bought a pair and love them. I’ve two damaged ankles and used to ache after riding but don’t anymore even at jumping length. That said my riding fitness has improved so, hard to tell how much is what. Practically speaking mine haven’t stretched and you can run them up and leave them on the saddle

I LOVE THESE

My favourite “splurge” to date. Was a bit iffy about the price but honestly, I really really rate them.

My instructor commented straight away at the improved stability in my leg. I have a sore knees and I think with these and wide tread stirrups it’s made a difference.
mine haven’t stretched I run them up and pop fleecy covers on the irons so they aren’t pressing on the saddle flap.

*im not in anyway associated with g&g I just love these leathers ?
Im also too old to be swayed by influencers, they are genuinely very good. Self confessed tightwad so won’t spend if I don’t think it’s worth it!

I got a pair of these from EvoEquine, I pre ordered them after seeing a Facebook ad. I'd been eyeing up the G&G ones for ages, but was really skeptical about how much difference they could make, and didn't fancy chancing £125 on it! I got the EvoEquine ones for £64 incl postage because I found a 10% discount code ("TWITTER" if anyone is interested, I did order at the end of August though, so it might not still work), and as my old leathers needed replacing anyway, I thought it was worth the risk.

I will admit I was starting to get a bit worried, especially as I searched on the forum and saw some old posts complaining about customer service issues, but they arrived last week (It did state Sept/Oct delivery, so not actually late). I was really impressed by the quality, and I am convinced they have improved the stability in my lower leg in jumping and flat work. I haven't seen any of the other brands 'in person', but I can't see the quality being much different. I've only ridden in them 5/6 times so far, but my delightful mare tested my seat pretty well jumping on grass on Saturday, and I'm sure these played a part in my staying on board

I have the Pravins ones and have used them for well over a year along with flex-on stirrups and I find them absolutely amazing! There's no stretching at all and still look as good as the day I got them. Other people have used my saddle and commented on how good the leathers are! I have really bad joints and would always be aching but the leathers ( and probably the stirrups) helped me massively!
