My OH and I want to go somewhere nice on the weekend to do some Christmas shopping and stay overnight in a B&B or hotel.......

Anyone know any good shopping town’s which are also nice Towns to visit and stay generally?

Christmas shopping is so uninspiring when you go to the same place all the time! Dont you think!!?

Where are you travelling from Mallakey?

If you're NOT looking for cheap and cheerful, you could go to Marlow or Beaconsfield, about 20 minutes by car away from each other in the South Bucks Chilterns. There's also Henley on Thames - 20 minutes from Marlow in the other direction.

Neither town is big, and neither town is cheap - but as these towns haven't yet been taken over by huge superstores, they still retain their own identity and are therefore not yet exactly the same as every other faceless town in GB. So you stand a good chance of getting gifts that are different.

Both towns are nice to visit and stay in generally I would say, and there's a fair amount of other things you can find to do in the Chilterns too, depending on your interests.

I second the Bath suggestion it is nice for shopping, lots of back streets to wander around and a good selection of shops and hotels

Parking is tricky, the park and ride option is best

Oxford is also pretty good as is Cheltenham

I've never been there but apparentoy York is very nice

Hey, Thanks for the replies!

we are in Surrey near Guildford but dont mind driving a few hours each way - we are wanting to make it in to a weekend break as well as shopping!

Try Chichester, it has a lovely balance of high street stores and individual stores with something for everyone in a historical setting. You could go to the theatre in the evening or visit the roman ruins in nearby Fishbourne, if you wished you could combine it with a quiet day in Arundel on the sunday ( think antique gift shops / tea shops/ boat rides on the river ) and there are plenty of nice hotels / places to eat.

A couple of hours away.

Hehehe what about buying all your presents online from the likes of amazon.co.uk - and then just have fun with your OH on the weekend? (As you can tell, shopping is not my favourite :-)
