I've had my 7 year old cob mare since she was a yearling and she has always always been like a pet dog always friendly and in your face wanting to be caught trying to be caught when you want one of the others and has always lived out. Last July my friend began riding her as well and we also added a yearling 10hh filly. I didnt know at the time but I was also just pregnant. Now since then she has been difficult to catch until progressively now she is impossible to catch, I stable the filly elsewhere now and my friend (who was also pregnant a couple of weeks ahead of myself) stopped riding. I carried on through my pregnancy where she was hit and miss sometimes easy to catch some times impossible....whenshe doesn't want to there is no reasoning if you don't catch her instantly it won't happen.believw me I've tried for hours on end. A month before I gave birth I moved her and her field mate of 6 years to a field close to my home where they have both settled. She has become more and more feral I've had to leave the head collar on which isn't a good idea and she still gets this off. The longest we went was 3 weeks without getting near her and she now has it off again. As soon as I arrive she comes galloping over and will take treats and a stroke but bolt when the head collar comes or you try to catch her. I can only put it down to hormones and now that I have a baby she wants nothing to do with me. She is well, dentist , vet ,farrier, physio checked and all great. I am back to hacking her when I can catch her so it's not as though she's doing it to avoid hard work. Is this due to my pregnancy ? It has depressed me for bear a year now so we've made the sad decision to sell her but cannot even catch her to do this!!

What has her routine been like? Was she used to regularly being caught and brought in for food, grooming, etc., or was she always caught to ride and left loose the rest of the time. I only ask as I know a lady with 3 who are like this. They're always fed in the field though, and not caught for days/weeks at a time so have gone semi feral!

Also, I've just clocked her age. It sounds like she was fine while young, but could have been out of the routine of being caught enough for it to have made a difference through a formative year or two?
