Doing our first unaffiliated dressage test in a week (intro b)...eek!

I have a tweed show jacket and beige jods, if i'm going to wear a shirt and tie can it be any shirt with a collar and any tie? Or do I need a proper show shirt from a tack shop? My pony is a piebald cob and he'll be in black tack if that makes any difference. :o

TIA!

As long as the collar fits well enough so the tie sits neatly then you can wear any shirt, the tie can be pretty much anything not too loud and preferably not black, tweed is perfectly acceptable I wear mine rather than navy for lower levels.

What you have sounds perfect. Any plain shirt with collar is fine, think mine was from Asda & a normal tie will do. I wouldn't worry too much about attire for Unaffiliated - the judge will be more interested in your horses way of going. Best of luck 🍀

If you are wearing a tie then a shirt with a normal collar is fine - just make sure the shirt is a fairly pale colour (nothing too loud) and the colours in your tie are not too bright. Unaff you can more or less get away with most things but dressage judges dont like garish loud colours so keep it simple, neat and tidy is the way to go!

good luck!

I competed affiliated up to elementary in an M&S white boy's collared shirt with a dark brown tie (an old one of my dads), tweed hacking jacket, black hat and dark beige breeches. No judge ever commented on my attire.

I wear a pale blue man's shirt with a normal collar bought in a supermarket with a navy pinspot tie "borrowed" from my dad. I then have a green tweed, navy hat, beige jodhs, beige gloves and black boots. My attire is commented on at dressage in a positive way. Don't forget to wear a hairnet!

Avoid soft button down collars they tend to look messy, go for a stiffened collar. And avoid white shirts, not only do they look grubby quickly they don't really compliment tweed. Go for pale blue, yellow, cream, pink or something checks can look nice too.

Buy a cheap white shirt from tesco or wherever and put it in the wash with a yellow duster. You will get the perfect show shirt yellow :)
