Brow tack is always correct. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
It's black tack which has a time and a place. Dark brown will take you anywhere

Perfect! We have matching dark brown tack.
My boots however are brown- for future possible shows, is it worth getting black boots? I have a brown show jacket as well (gold piping- quite nice actually) but again, black more appropriate?

No way stick to brown if it suits your horse! I love brown boots and never understand why on earth I would want to wear black boots when everything else is lovely and (dark) brown.
I think possibly at some higher level they are stricter on rider's clothes but not at any level I'll be concerned with for some time if ever!

Perhaps invest in a dark brown mascara instead of black - giving a softer, more submissive effect?

Ummm....
I have a black bridle, black boots, black jacket and a erm, dark brown saddle.... When your actually on the saddle and not close up, you can't tell that it's brown! It was a good price and fitted her.
A dressage judge can't mark you down for brown tack. Pink on the other hand...
