- I am thrilled as my horse has qualified for this at his first ever dressage outing.
Was wondering if anyone else is going to this, or maybe has been in previos yrs? What's it like?

I went two years ago, came middle of our class, which I was pleased with as the fact that we had qualified was a bit of a mystery to me in the first place!! Plus it rained hard in my test and my mare just hates the rain, so lost concentration.

Its a lovely venue though and well run, great surfaces etc and you will have a great time I am sure.

Best of luck.

Will it be held on a surface? I know someone who went a couple of years ago and competed on grass, I'm a bit worried it's going to be hard going at that time of year outdoors.

I would not have thought it would be on grass. I should think they have enough arenas there with rubber/sand.....but I don't know for definite.

i went two years ago - was a great experience

though was very quiet, no one seemed to talk to anyone else and they had to play loud music to liven the atmosphere!!

well i should say that actually my friend is riding my horse , I am still mentally recovering after breaking my back 18 mths ago in a fall. The confidence comes and goes. But it is great to get him out.....I will be very proud...!

Hi!
I qualified with one last year but she went lame so missed it!
Have qualified one for the novice and another for the novice and elementry this year, so may see you there, what class have you qualified for?
Pretty sure it wont be on grass, never been on grass when i've competed at H'std before! x

We have just qualified for the prelim stuff......it was his first dressage comp and he qual........I can't remember what test - I think prelim 17/18.
Well done with your qualifications....!

Hickstead dressage is never on grass, they use the same arenas that are used for the International stuff, so really nice surfaces and "proper" permanent arenas.

For anyone in the area, they do a nice unaffiliated series over the summer there too - starts in April.
