Hi everyone! It's been absolute ages since I've done a FSM competition, and I was hoping to do one for just for fun at a local Riding Club show that is running Unaffiliated as well as BD classes. Now, last time I did one, I remember having to get a BD Music membership for about £10. So I popped my entry in, and went to the BD website...Perusing the website, it appears that the Music License no longer exists, and instead, I would have to shell out £50 for a BD "Club" membership, which would give me the music license as well as loads of stuff that I don't want. If that's the only option to do a one-off unaffiliated test, it'll end up costing me £60 to enter one measly unaffiliated class, which is insane (I'm not likely to want to do another one within this season). Am I reading this correctly? Is there really no option for a one-off license anymore?

What are the unaffiliated show organiser's requesting/suggesting that you do to obtain the music license?

I complete BD so got my music license through them. It's never occurred to me about a music license of you're not competing BD...

Tbh I don't think they HAVE a request: I called, and they weren't sure. I think the assumption is that anyone wanting to do FSM must be doing it either through BRC or BD, aiming for a championship. Probably because the music is a faff to put together, so people don't tend to do it just for a lark... I happen to be a musician conversant with the usual software, so it's not a huge deal for me to do it myself. Bit of an unusual situation. Licensing concerns are very real for musicians, but mainly the aim is 1. to prevent people from making a profit from playback/performances of our music without us getting our cut, and 2. to prevent people from ripping it off and presenting it as their own (and then profiting therefrom). Neither of these concerns apply in this situation, though they might well apply in the usual scenario of "somebody gets paid to make an arrangement/cut together music for a FSM, somebody else gets paid for making a choreography/floor plan, and/or coaching it, etc. etc.".
