Hi, I after some advice. I have recently gained access to transport and have been taking my ISH out and about a bit. He has been doing very well, and I'm thinking of setting myself a long term goal to compete in a BE80 event with him at the end of next summer. This will give us plenty of time to get out and about and do a bit more Dressage and SJ and do some more cross country schooling. I would also like to do an unaffiliated ODE before a BE one as neither me or my horse have ever Evented before.

Just wondered if anyone could tell me any good unaffiliated ODEs I should look out for in the spring? Ideally at 70/75cm height to start with but obviously interested in anything 80/85cm too. Also, which would be a nice first BE80 in the Leicestershire area? I may consider travelling further afield, i.e parts of Lincs, Notts and Northants for the right one. I was planning on doing Brooksby BE80 in September, but is this a nice first one?

Any advice much appreciated! I'm new to all this competing stuff - it's daunting but exciting at the same time!

Thanks :)

Eland lodge do a very friendly unaff ODE starting at 70cm, not in Leicestershire but not too far...

Also recommend Solihull unaff, again not in your specific area but not too far to travel.

I'm based in Nottinghamshire, and around me there is norton Disney (blankney and Brocklesby pony clubs) badsworth pony club (in Yorkshire so maybe a bit far for you) epworth and speetley equestrian centres (again maybe a bit far for you), East Midlands dressage group ode at osberton (a really nice course but entries full up fast) and burton PC at hackthorn (you either love or hate this course, and I don't really like it). These are all unaffiliated and have 70-80cm classes. You need to get your entries in for shelford quickly because is very popular! And I've heard Aston le walls is good too but I've never been because it's too far for me. Hope this helps :)
