unaffiliated over BE tracks

I have only done one unaffiliated in the last few years over an affiliated track which was llanymynech it was very disappointing as it missed out any combinations or anything viewed as tricky eg the corner that is why I shall continue to pay for be as I want to progress!

I agree with M_M.

ALW, Eland and Keysoe all run the unaff to the same standard as the BE (Perhaps because they actually run the events and have a rep to keep?)

But I have also been to some PC events ran over BE courses and found unprepared ground and in one example the novice drop into the water was in the intro!!! (There was an L fence).

One thing to note though, the good ones tend to charge the same as BE, inc the start fee!!!! So the only thing you save on is membership.

The prizes are MUCH better in the main though. I've won £55 for second in an unaff 90cm class over a BE track, and when I came second at a BE90open I won a photo frame and photo voucher, total value about £20. Second in a 1m class at unaff over a BE track = lesson voucher worth £50, second in a BE100open = cheque for £33. So you not only save on the registration fee, you also gain on the prizes.

The good ones round here are also not the same cost as BE. Stockland Lovell for example charges £40 an entry including start fee, and runs round a very similar course to those you will find if you do BE there.

Would also agree with M_M, there is one locally that always has a RC event the week aftr the BE, but the SJing is always so diabolical I won't do it, and have forked out for the BE event instead.... So if you're just looking for XC, then fair enough, but I want the whole package, and find myself paying BE costs again instead... Stafford was an example of an EXCELLENT unaff event, the courses were just as fantastically prepared as the BE, and the SJIng was excellent too. it was at the slightly more expensive end, but I for one was not going to complain! You get what you pay for... ;)
