unbalancement and alignment of the foot

He only had x rays which doesn't show up much really as he wasn't covered for an mri. He does have arthritis to, it was a year last Feb he first went lame and were just getting back on track now :-)

I'm surprised you saying remove the Happy Hoof, I thought it was a low sugar feed for lammi prone ponies, horses and good doers?

Hmm...lots of things are marketed that way and carry a certain logo.

We use a plain soft oat straw chaff, with linseed, minerals and all sorts in it. The chaff is unmolassed and un-everything else. Just provides bulk.

We get it from a local supplier - it's in biggish bales and costs about £9. Lasts for ages.

How long did it take for him to come sound at Rockley?

He never came `sound` at rockley. Nic just set him off in the right direction. It took a lot of hard work even when he came back

He went lame a yr last Feb, went to rockley from last Dec to march and now he is doing well, still not 100% but better than he has been for ages. He's still footy on stones but id rather him be footy than struggling with navicular in shoes :-)

He was in heart bars from march - October, then id had enough of not going anywhere so stupidly put normal shoes on him as i thought he'd be ok in them wintering out not being ridden, but he was crippled so got them taken off and he was barefoot from then

There are a lot of top competition horses out there with bar shoes on especially show jumpers. They must work for them.

Yup, they provide pain relief but they do little or nothing to solve the cause of the pain and for many horses they allow the soft tissue damage inside the foot to get worse.

For many horses they are a short/medium term help only and the lameness returns, sometimes in weeks, sometimes in years.

Most of the people who have contributed to this thread so far are barefooters like me, who would prefer to see the cause of the pain resolved than to mask it with shoes.

For every showjumper out there successfully competing with bar shoes on, I'd bet there are at least another ten who have been pensioned off or put down with a big insurance claim.
