best thing i ever saw was a child beating her poor overweight horse around the minmus jumping and when she came out her mother wrenched her off the horse, grabbed the whip and swiped it across the back of her legs saying there was no need to do that and the whip was only there as a back up aid and if she ever did anything like that agin, the horse would be sold.
two shows later, i saw the horse again, different rider, looking much fitter and whizzing round a 2ft6 course i think!!
Apparently the coloured was RISING 3 and the girl was a large teenager. Her horse was so attached to the little black that she couldn't do anything with it. It was wearing a dutch gag, running martingale and flash noseband, if I remember rightly, and this was a FAMILY PONY class!!!! The girl on the black was mouthing off as soon as she went in the ring. They were both very rude to the judge and the steward who asked them to leave the ring, which they did. The parents, (he had long blond hair in a pony-tail,) then had a real go at the organiser who told them all to leave the showground immediatley. No wonder judges are leaving if that is what they have to put up with!
I dont think the pony was suffering, the child couldnt ride for toffee, BUT my original point was that the rules in the schedule clearly stated no under 4 year olds and the stupid family could not understand why they were asked to leave the ring and thought it was unreasonable!!
