Very embarassing topic, I don't mean saddle sore, I mean my front bottom! Does anyone else suffer, and if so any tips? In my lesson it's fine but hacking more than an hour agony.
It may be time to replace my profile pic with a horse pic after this post-hahaha!!
Cheers Ellie with a sore foo foo!

You're not MEANT to sit on the front (although I've seen a few keen hunting ladies of older age with a big grin on their faces while perched very close to the pommel!

)

Sit down on your seat bones and you shouldn't have a problem unless your saddle is badly made or too small for you (or you're riding in jeans!)

Heather Moffat seatsaver? Padded pants (think Equetech do some dressage pants)? Sheepskin saddle cover??

I explored all options following the birth of my baby - all of the above should provide some relief

Front bottom is the term I've always used with my daughter....foo foo is a new one tho
wink.gif
. No real tips I'm afraid apart maybe a 'bum-saver' saddle pad if it only seems to occur after a longer ride. Do you ever get told you tip forward when you ride ('sitting on your fork' as my old instructor used to say
confused.gif
)? Maybe you need to try a different saddle as it should fit your horse and you.
BTW My friend refers to 'it' as a flower....until someone bought her daughter a T-shirt with 'Flower Power' across the front of it

Yeah promise my smile riding is for the joy of equestrianism and nothing else!! Will try both suggestions thanks. Not to make people ill on a friday night, but it's actually been so bad it's bled before. Think it's partly to do with how I've been made, as spinning kills me also.

Are you sure your saddle isn’t too small for your bottom, really you shouldn’t be sitting that far forwards? Oh and ditto the good (I like big M&S ones) knickers!

There was a huge long thread on the BD forum about this. Some tips from what I remember:

- ensure saddle actually fits you and horse properly. Sounds obvious, but if its tipping you forwards then its no good
- ensure you're sitting on your seat bones and that your pelvis isn't rotated. Someone recommended standing with your back touching a wall and seeing which way your knicker line tilts... if it is not completely straight then your pelvis is not in line ie your natural posture could mean you stick your bum out and you will have to do work off the horse to correct it
- padded pants!
- seatsaver
- get more padding on your bum!
- a surgical approach if all else fails!

Hope this helps

Ooooooooooooooooh, that's not good

. How about shorter stirrups, more rising trot, a jumping-style flatter saddle ?

Yeah its a friends horse and saddle so don't have too much choice with regards to that. Don't think its a sitting too far forward issue, as again not to make you all puke but it's underneath where I sit so to speak, but will check.

Just be glad you're not a bloke.

We really can suffer for our riding, especially when the horse puts in a dirty stop.

More than once I have been hunched over the pommel trying not to be sick

It does depend rather on your anatomy.

HM seatsaver seatsaver/well fitting saddle/ not too much walking help.

Youre talking about a bloke here that went for a jumping lesson two days after having "that" operation...and realised afterwards that it was reslly not smart.

Had to then face a nurse about my mum's age stitching the wound back up again. Ho hum...one lives and learns.

Yep, I went on a full day ride on a saddle not my own once, and was very glad I had an extra pair of pants for the second day for more padding! It was a saddle based on army design, so it was my mistake to try to sit "upright" like a dressage rider, rather than the soldier style, sitting at the back of the saddle with the legs a bit forward. The saddle had extended bars, so even sitting back in the saddle meant that the weight was in the middle.

Isn't this why men are better at dressage then women - they have to sit up straight!

Really can only agree with everyone else - is the saddle too small for you, are you tipping forward, failing that wear cycle underwear!

I know that my son took to rising trot very quickly and my husband remembered how to rise to the trot after a 10 year gap - self-preservation
