The vet came to geld him in the spring, fully sedated him and had a good feel about and could only find one, she said to check again in a few months as it may drop, came back in June, the testicle was now bigger and normal but no sign of the other one still, talked me through options about operations etc if it still looked like it wasnt going to make an appearence. Had a good check today (he's a very good boy and thankfully doesnt mind ) and could see the other had grown again and no sign of the other atall i have 2 mares and a little gelding who he is kept with (seperated from the girls by elec tape) TBF even when the mares are in season he isnt showing any interest atall, he still mouths at them and other horses and is generally very much a baby. He is quiet to handle and not nippy or coltish. I really wanted to show him next spring inhand as he is a lovely boy, welsh D, very flashy looking but not whilst he has his bits intact!! he is my first colt and was hoping to have him gelded before 12 months going to be a bit stuck when he does show an interest in the girls as only have the one big field and am sure electric tape wont hold him back especially as the TB is a right hussy in season
Plus he's getting a rather big boy now at 14hh and has lots of filling out to do!
So do i take the plunge and start discussing options with my vet or wait a while longer?
I know there are risks with surgery and theres a cost of around £700 am told. That means that my saddle fund for my other youngster will have to be used up
Any ideas? experiences?
Thanks
Heres a pic i took so you get the general idea, i take it it IS a testicle i can see lol i only usually have mares, last gelding we had was about 15 - 20 yrs ago!!! (also in breeding)
