Hi! My name is Ciara and i have just turned 12. I am extremly enthusiastic about horses and was wondering if some-one (this could be you!) could help me....

I was wondering what under 16's courses there are. I have taken an intrest in doing these but of course i have the small problam of i don't know what there is!

If you could be REALLY helpfull then could you answer these quetions about them too?
1/ Do you have to pay to do the course?
2/ If yes, then how much on average?
3/ Do you know any centers nearby that offer these course (i live in suffolk)
4/ Do you need to have your own horse?
5/ Any other infomation you can offer?

Hello Ciara,

I assume you are asking about courses to learn about horse care and stable management? If so, I would suggest that you find a riding school near you which is also a Pony Club centre. With Pony Club Centres you do not have to own your own pony and there are a variety of awards you can work towards, including achievement badges and the letter 'tests'.

The sessions vary in cost from centre to centre. There is a membership charge to join the Pony Club which I believe is currently about £25 for a year.

You could start looking for centres on the BHS website - http://www.bhs.org.uk/Riding/Find_Where_To_Ride/Find_An_Approved_Centre/Find_a_Riding_Centre.aspx

There is also a lot of information on the Pony Club website, www.pcuk.org
 
There isn't an age limit for the BHS Horse Owners Certificate but the BHS advise a minimum of 12 years, according to academic ability of candidate.

WOW - what a well written and set out post :)
 
If you don't need a nationally recognised qualification eg for a job, The Open College of Equine Studies offers a range of qualification via distance learning, some with the option of attending a residential practical week several times a year. You don't need your own pony. There is a charge, but its minimal as they're a not-for-profit organization. You do the assignments at home and send your work in the post to be marked by the tutor.
 
Sorry to interrupt here - isn't the age limit for Internet forums 13 and up?

Its good that you are on here and trying to learn and I'm sure the majority of people on here an lovely, but do your mum and dad know you're on here?
