Under rugs

When very cold I leave a full neck under rug under a 450g turn out, never had any problems with doing this, & my horse is very active in the field !

I don't use fleeces, they always seem to pull back and end up really tight, same with cotton lined. I use an underrug that's nylon (? The shiny stuff!) on both sides or occasionally a medium turnout if its raining.

I do, and why wouldn't you?

I guess if you've lots of money to buy separate rugs for every occasion (or like me, are an out and out rugaholic :o ) you can afford to have a rug for every eventuality and therefore have separate 'under rugs' but for most (and me too!) why not use a suitable weight stable rug or fleece under decent waterproof turnout? Personally, I have lots of Rambo Lite weight turnouts and only one medium and one very heavyweight turnout in my collection. I get away with using rugs underneath my light weight turnouts most of the year. I only have to dig out the industrial weight turnout a couple of times a year when it's REALLY cold and wet, and the medium weight one if my under rugs are being washed. I also use Snuggy Hood Silky Petticoat liners (I have 2) underneath my rugs so I can wash them once a week and keep my other rugs clean inside. Works great :)
