I was at a show recently and next to my box was another box that contained 2 youngster welshies. They were yearlings judging from their gangly look and were very well behaved (in comparison to other older ponies!). The lady who owned them was trying to put some cream on their face and when the yearling colt pulled back she hit him in the face with the tub and shouted "for ******* sake stand still you t***!" I was totally appalled by her treatment of the yearling. She lost the class and I felt ashamedly glad about it but then I felt sorry for the yearling wondering what repercussions he would suffer. Why behave like this to not just a youngster but any horse, and why do it at a show where everyone can see you?? Am I being unreasonable?

:( :( :( :( Like montyforever i've seen this alot at shows. I even saw one woman beating her horse over the head in the ring in front of the judge and she went on the get champion.   I complained to the organiser who didn't care    Then I wrote a letter to horse and hound to vent my   probably didn't do much good but it made me feel alittle better.

It is always worth complaining to the Show Secretary, they might be non-committal in their comments to you, as is only polite to the judge, but if they get complaints about a particular judge, they will not ask them to officiate again and they will probably pass on comments to the breed society if they are running an affiliated class. They do get things to fill in sometimes.

I hate it when people hit horses full stop. But around the head is terrible. There was a woman at my old yard who used to hit her small pony around the face for silly things, like daring to snatch a piece of grass why she stood there gas bagging to other liveries. The poor little things head used to just shoot up and he'd be wide eyed at the sight of her raising her hand. She didn't hit him particulary hard, but who wants to be smacked around the face all the time! I really wish I had said something to her before I left. But she obviosuly doesn't care that she made a perfectly good pony head shy! ....cow!

I have never in my life hit a horse or a dog. It shows lack of confidence and ignorance. I was always told that the person shouting and flailing arms about is the frightened one. I hate to see this in any animal human confrontation.

poor horse complain to the show owner person
at a fun ride i saw someone trying to box a horse that didnt want to load and she just kept whacking it and shoving and pushing it te poor horse was terrifyed no wonder it didnt want to load!

I don't agree with hitting horses around the head in any circumstance.

However the worst thing I ever saw at a show was many years ago at a local unaffiliated show when a mother hit her young child across the leg and body with a riding crop when he didn't win his class. He was desperately overhorsed on a pony she had bought for him to win on. A number of people compared to the show organised and she was then banned for the rest of the season.

I often wonder about these people. I once posted about a show on here where the rider spurred her horse so much it was all bleeding on both sides but it was only obvious when she got off the horse, Shows should be more strict IMO.
I was appauled.
What are people thinking?! You are NOT being unreasonable!! It would have ticked me off too!
