Great report Rambo, I feel like I was there with you

Congrats on your fab double clear on the first day.
What an experience though. It must have been hard work.

Yep I went - had a bit of a trauma getting there as although we left in good time just before we got there we decided to stop and fill up with diesel for the way home - only my mum decided to use unleaded instead! Luckily she realised what she'd done before starting the engine but we still had to be towed away for it to be syphoned (sp) out.

Anyway we got there in the end and I had a good time.. In the small tour I was clr/4 clr/8 the first day, managed low placing in the speed class (19th I think) and had 8flts in the GP and then 4flts on the last day.

In the big tour I was 10th in the warm up then got a bit ambitious against the clock in the team qualifier to have 3 down, my poor horse isn't used to going quick and I unsettled him a bit. Put my sensible head back on for the next day came 8th in the speed with the slowest clr ever, which just shows how tricky it was, had the first fence in the gp due to over fiddling. 4flts in the last class to finish up.

I really enjoyed myself though - I love jumpimg at Towerlands and it turns out I missed out on a team place by one placing!

Oh bad luck on missing out on the team place ! Sounds like you had a good consistent show though. I noticed on the first day that all the distances were spot on....nothing too tricky, and plenty of space to play with....but on saturday they started to throw some questions in, and by sunday, the lines were very technical and quite tight....fences coming up thick and fast

You did well to place twice in strong company though

Ooops about the petrol

At least you didn't drive off and blow up the engine

Thanks. I'm very lucky in that my horse in the big tour is very consistent and as long I don't do anything silly (and sometimes even if I do) I can rely on him to do his job - I just need to sort myself out!

Yes the petrol thing was very embarrasing - but like you said it could have been worse - needless to say I'm sure my mum won't make the same mistake again!

Rambo - great report. It sounds like a great show and all good experience. I hope that it hasn't unsettled Trike but you may find that having dealt with a large show atmosphere that he will be full of confidence at more local shows.

The set up of the show sounds similar to the veteran rider shows that my YO does. These also run a small tour and a grand tour but they are 1.10m and 1.20m. These are run all over Europe and she treats them as a bit of a holiday. Only problem is that you have to be a "veteran" to take part.

Hi SteveGG - bet I can guess who's yard you are at. My YO also does the Vets, and they get to go all over Europe jumping, and they have teriffic fun.

Vets have to be over 45 for ladies, and over 50 for gents.

Brilliant Kev. Sounds like you had a great weekend - and all fab experience too. Also well done for the DC - that's not easy, as the whole event/atmosphere sometimes gets to the horses.

Who were the course builders?

Thanks Susan

It was a great experience...and you're right, the atmosphere can certainly set some horses off on it's own....as was the case with Trike ! Bo took it all in his stride though...fortunately

I can't remember who the coursebuilders were tbh

It was on the schedule but that's gone from the Towerlands website now so, sorry, can't tell you

Update - report from the bar.

The show was great, I didnt take part as I have only just started competing.

The organised events in the evenings wee entertaining though.

I spent 2 nights in the bar, made lots off new friends, got invited to stables in Ireland to enjoy the "craick"

God I was pissed. Did kareoke, never done that in 42 years on teh planet. Mind you my impersonation off a collected canter through the bar raised a few laughs.

Great comp though. Cant wait till the next one.
