Unexpected foal! Eek!

ChestnutTinker

I'm crying like a baby too and hence my reading glasses have fogged up. I'm a complete mess!
What a lovely foal and an amazing mum.
So love the long, long wobbly legs.
A lovely video that has melted my heart.
What a beautiful surprise for the owner.

I must be hormonal because I just bawled and bawled!

Lovely, please let us know how babe gets on and what her name is when she has one?

Thank God it wasn't just me :o
Beautiful video :D

There's something almost mystical about a foal arriving I felt a bit soggy too .
On a practical note I agree with the posts above I would restict movement for a few days I stabled but turned out for a couple of hours daily until we sure all was ok with the limbs when we had mares.

Loved the vid and the photos are very cute. Looks like it will be a sweet foal.

Bit *eek* though that experienced folk didn't spot a mare in foal and the signs before she gave birth. I hope mum and baby get the right care. Seen a few too many sad posting on FB lately, hadn't realised how risky the whole thing is :(

Very cute ! Welcome to the world little one ! Who in sure will soon be running rings round mum and making you late for everything as its so fun watching them :-)

Back from work! I will tell you all I know, so speculate about the rest all you like :P I am very 'out of the loop' as it were, for this situation! I just wanted to show you our new little friend.

That, however doesn't mean I won't pass on advise.

From day 1 (just over a month ago) I have been saying she looks pregnant! The first words out of my mouth were "Crikey!! Are you sure she isn't preggers?!" I was reassured time and time again that she couldn't be and was simply fat.
But today she looked different and the lady I was poo-picking with thought the same.
I know a stable was being sorted for them, but whether they are in there or not I don't know. I was up for 30mins to take pics, then had to get to work.

We, in fact had another mare who was in the same state, we were sure she must be pregnant, but it has turned out that she was just a wormy fatty!

When I said "we" I mean people at my yard. As I said, I have had nothing to do with the mare.

Anyway, I'm so excited to see her tomorrow :D We are thinking about calling her Surprise :D Very fitting!

She's doing fabulously :D Will have to get photos of her dashing about! She has a stable, but is allowed out in her own field for some of the day :)

ETA: She's also been officially named Lottie!
