Unexplained lameness - Some advice please

Shoes cannot correct rotation....only a correct trim can do that alongside removing the cause of the laminitis and supporting the WHOLE hoof not just the frogs. Gardeners kneeling pads are good for this.

Laminitis really is best treated unshod. With laminitis, the structures that attach the inside of the hoof to the outside wall are compromised. Attaching a shoe to the wall , and not fully supporting the rest of the whole hoof...frog, sole and wall may result in more damage/rotation plus with a shoe on ,the realigning trim can't be done frequently enough to correct rotation.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and advice. He seems brighter today however he's still shifting his weight. Unfortunately shoes aren't an option and even the vet explained that he didn't want to put shoes in him either. I also did read the link that you posted _HP_ so thank you for the information.

Sorry to hear it was laminitis unfortunately it was a year ago yesterday I lost my mare to it so when I read your post I did think it was the dreaded laminitis:(.

2 danilon a day is really not that much pain relief when they are shifting their weight, I would be telling the vet you want to be making your horse comfortable, my horse was on 4 bute a day for at least 2 weeks then it went down to 3, she also had her feet padded immediately and it really helped her be more comfortable, I really hope he shows some improvement but it can take many months for them to be sound again.
