Just wondering if anyone has the same experiance as me when it comes to local shows, That is the same people winning all the time even though there are some better ponies and riders, Just because they know the judges
I have no experience of showing but was roped in to Steward for a judge recently. It was eyeopening as the judge felt she might as well educate me as she went along. Fascinating stuff!
Are you sure that the ponies and riders you consider "better" are actually correctly prepared and presented for the classes they were entered for, because in the local show we were at it was stunning how many were not, or were making basic errors (turning horse wrong way, holding it's head up when trotting), or were utterly incapable of standing the horse up correctly, or even unable to correctly follow the judges's orders.
Now I have to admit I didn't know how to stand a horse up, I have no idea of the correct presentation for whichever class has been chosen etc so some of the horses I thought would do well didn't, others which looked scruffy and dirty were placed above immaculately presented horses which was explained to me as although the immaculate horses were, well, immaculate, they, say, didn't have any feather which for a trad cob class is rather expected.
So are you sure that you really know what a judge would be expecting to see, or is it a case of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing? or just sour grapes?
There is no such thing as the 'wrong' diagonal. I would just stop going to local shows or accept that it is just a fun thing and showing is very subjective and a judges personal opinion on the day.
Best switch to show jumping - the jumps either stay up ...... or they don't![]()
Maybe you should enlighten all the riding instructors out there then as they are always shouting out "wrong" diagonal and actually i am stoping going
There is the traditional diagonal that the UK uses, however on the continent they use the other one and you will never get marked down or score more points in a dressage test for which diagonal you use. Well maybe if you were their Aunty you might![]()
