So Obi refuses to wear a turnout rug. He's perfectly happy in a stable rug in winter - but becomes very tense and stressed in a turnout rug and refuses to leave the gate or gallops madly round the field.

He had an accident in a combo rug many years ago (he got barbed wire stuck under the neck and shredded the skin).

At 26 and with Cushings - I want him to be kept dry in winter when he is turned out. I don't want to panic and fret all winter when I'm stuck at work and he's out in the rain....or scramble about leaving him in for days with a short walk around the yard in-hand because it's too cold to leave him out naked.....

So I spent £100 on a shiny new Prem Equine dual purpose rug that he can wear indoors and out. I figured if he had it on overnight in the stable (in winter) and then just got turned out in it, he wouldn't notice the difference .

He has a BFF this year and I figured if I introduced the rug now - with his BFF there, he may accept it....

How do you think it went today???

it is your fault you put it on him:rolleyes:

He sent you to make me feel guilty, didn't he.....

there is a telepathic link between myself and Obi, he did not send me just the message:D he does not like the colour and cut of his new outfit he says it does not do his figure justice and he will be shredding it at the first available opportunity, unfortunately his new friend thinks he is being ungrateful so he will have to do it when they are not there:p:D

is his BFF a girl by any chance??? if his BFF is a girl it may explain why he prefers to be naked ;) :p

No, boys only in the field ;)

He's never been a 'horsey' horse and always preferred to graze alone, rather than with the herd. He NEVER grooms with anyone. He is happy in his stable and often refuses point blank to leave the barn if the weather displeases him .

But this year this coloured chap moved to the yard and since they've been out for the summer, they've formed a close bond and a satellite herd of four others. The coloured chap will follow him to the gate and wait until he comes back.

In 20 years with him, I've never seen him so settled and happy in the field - that's why I thought I may get away with introducing turnout rugs (I try this and fail, every autumn )

Wow - are you a horse communicator?

Do you charge?

I can send you a cheque for £299.99 if you can psychically ask Obi what he wants for dinner tonight

Rats - do I need to spend another £100 on a matching rug

Tomorrow there will be a thread from the coloured chap's owner titled, "Some random livery has rugged up my horse - should I be mad or not...?"
